Surf,
thx for your input on Shanks. RTO and BET have both said he is not a "must get" but he is close to it the way Bama is recruiting him. a top prospect from Pratville is always important to maintain success for in-state talent. I believe he will drag this out as well. :cool2:
Re Shanks: He likes the game known as "recruiting" and he is a PHS player. PHS sends players to Tuscaloosa...

I certain hope you are right and I am farly optimistic that Bama will sign him.

We should move any further Shanks discussion to the Shanks thread. This thread is for the discussion of Darren Lake's commitment. ;)

Matt Cochran, the center from California, said he has had the chance to go up against both Lake and Eddie Goldman. According to him, Lake is every bit as good as Goldman.

It's possible, but Lake had everything to prove in his camp performances. It's been mentioned that Goldman hasn't gone full throttle at any camps he's gone to. However, I love the idea of finding another under the radar guy like Marcell Dareus was.

I agree. Lake is really raw, but I think he can develop and become that type of guy.

Working from memory, but I'm pretty sure Dareus had offers from Tennesee, North Carolina, Aubarn, Arkansas, and Clemson in addition to ours. One of the major recruiting services ranked him in the top ten of def tackles. Hard to see him as "under the radar."

He only had offers from Alabama and Tennessee. He recieved both at each program's camp. Darren Lake is garnering attention, but he's still largely under the radar. More so than Marcell Dareus was. Dareus had a far larger offer list, even at this point in the recruiting process. And as far as a I know, he's not ranked by Rivals and Scout has him #31 at DT. 247Sports has yet to rank him either. I don't have any idea about ESPN.

Great news!! Congrats to Mr. Lake for taking care of business. We'll need some people on campus to step up or a newcomer jump right in since we'll be losing Chapman and Gentry.

As has been said ad nauseum, that 3-4 thing is vastly overblown..the last game that we truly had our lunch handed to us was against Utah. They spread us out. So that's what almost everyone we play tries to do. Which puts us in a 4-2-5 alignment with Upshaw playing DE and the regular DE sliding in to play DT...

That being said, (and to answer your original question) it depends on what you want. The Casey Hampton (Josh Chapman) or the Jamal Williams (Terrance Cody). Having a NT that can attract multiple blockers as well as collapse the pocket makes everyone else look like superstars.

In our 3-4 scheme would it be better to have a space eater or a disruptor at dt?
