I'd kick that punk of my team so fast, he'd feel like he'd been sucker punched.
and let's not forget this guy has already been kicked out of practice earlier this year for being a jerk. He really showed his arse last night.

Not that I condone Blount punching that dude, but if you're gonna trash talk somebody like that, you deserve whatever comes your way. That guy looked freaking stunned after the punch.

Having said that, Blount's a trouble maker. He needs to be suspended for a few games for that punch.

Yah, I thought that was pretty weak, especially when he couldn't follow up on his tough talk.

I'd much prefer a team to be natural and beat them fair and square on the field, then shake hands and tell them "good game".
Lamentably, that type of behavior flies in the face of the smack-talking, "it's all about me", in yo face attitude, that's glamorized in the world of athletics, on all levels, these days.:frown:

ps With exceptions of course.....

Both players were in the wrong. Wasn't it coach Saban that said "You can choose your decisions but you can't choose your consequences."? I'll apply the lessons of that quote to both players involved, Blount and the Boise St. player that got ear holed. Be careful what you decide to do because you don't know what reaction it's going to bring.

The player who was taunting shouldn't be suspended by the NCAA, but should be forced to sit out for a half or something by the coach.

Re: Oregon Ducks LeGarrette Blount punches Boise State Player

I have no sympathy for either.

#1) You don't punch an opposing player, no matter what they say. It's poor discipline, and it's bad for the team, the school, the conference, and the game. This one gets an automatic dismissal from the team. Sorry, LeGarrette, there will be no further discussion.

#2) I don't know why people don't understand this one. Provoking a grown man to anger has unpredictable consequences. It doesn't make him right if he slaps you, spits on you, fires you, destroys your property, slanders you, or knocks your block off on national television. He will still bear the punishment of his actions, and deservedly so. Still, if you provoked him, you cannot be held blameless. The Boise State player is not an innocent victim, and would certainly incur my wrath if I were his coach. Whatever punishment he receives will get no argument from me.

Only the Oregon and Boise State fans have my sympathy, and truly I am embarrassed for them.

Re: Oregon Ducks LeGarrette Blount punches Boise State Player

This entire situation was put in motion last year with some of the alleged dirty play by Boise State. Oregon has been stewing for a year, they wanted revenge and things didn't work out for them on the field.

Blount couldn't back up his pre-game jawing on the field and he apperently doesn't have the dignity to take the loss like a man, so he took the cheap way out.

He should have stopped and considered the real price of his actions before he did it. This is what happens when you put too much emphasis on emotion as a part of the game. It usually doesn't help the team that much during regulation, but it causes a lot of problems before and after the game.

I want our players to basically be SlobberKnockerZoids. I want them to be robotic in their focus, their execution and their reactions. I want them to see their opponent only as an object that must be completely dominated without mercy.

I think that Blount should be suspended but the Boise State player shouldnt be suspended but should be punished by his coach. I have played sports ever since I was little and it doesnt matter who you are there is always some trash talking going on, but there is no reason to take it to the point that Blount did thats like the clemson carolina game of 04 I would have kicked everyone off and started over lol

I missed all of this about Blount. From the sound of it, he may have thrown his career away by losing his cool.

But before the Sugar Bowl last year, when I saw some Alabama players mouthing off before the game, I had a bad feeling. It may have gone on throughout the year, but I don't remember seeing it until then. And, hopefully the team learned the mistake of trash talking.

I love how some people here keep saying, "Oh, man, I loved seeing the thug sucker punching other athletes and being restrained by police! Because it showed how much he really loved the game of football!" What a load of crap.

Where was that sympathy last year when Auburn was chop-blocking people? At least they had sense enough to assault other athletes while there was still time on the clock.

He knew he was done for when he threw that punch, so he decided to be the biggest D-bag in college football history and go out flaming. Thug life, right?

I say don't just kick him off of the team, but expel him. In handcuffs.

This. Great post.

Blount should be permanently removed from the team and have his scholly revoked. What he did to Hout was actually somewhat understandable. But what he did to the Oregon football team, individual teammates, and in fact, the University of Oregon...warrants this punishment. Maybe not so harsh if it was his first transgression, but...it's not.
-
Hout is a punk with a glass jaw. He should be suspended for instigating the incident. Also, he should be suspended for embarassing his team by having such a glass jaw. For him, one FULL game suspension, and lots and lots of laps to toughen him up a little. Hout pictured below...

Trash talking has been and will always be a part of football. A player is supposed to keep his emotions in check. Blount deserves not only to be kicked off the team but expelled from school as well--IMO

what were taught as kids????....."Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me"---yeah that's it!!

We will see what happens, but he should be kicked off of the team. No excuse for his actions, especially past the punch, not that the punch was acceptable.

i was really embarrassed by that as well. i'm sure we have a lot of jawing going on (as does every team) and i usually don't mind it as long as it doesn't get too far out of control, but the captains are supposed to lead by example and i definitely don't like jawing before or after the game.

a good example was how Shaun Alexander approached the overtime coin toss in the swamp in 99. he had a big ole smile on his face and you just knew he was going to take care of business.

Bad sportsmanship doesn't excuse reciprocation. There was no excuse for that punch and the fact that he even went after fans afterward tells me the boy needs a full-season suspension. That sort of behavior shouldn't be tolerated.
