"Duo" blocking scheme. We do it but so do others.

I know many of us watch The Film Guy and he has said he didn't like the "duo" scheme we run on the Oline. He thinks thats more for NFL level and not college. However, we arent the only offense using this blocking scheme. I watched several games yesterday and the announcers made reference to the teams blocking scheme and it was "duo". So dont think we're the unicorn of college football and running some unique outdated blocking scheme. Im assuming when learned, an NFL level scheme is superior to a college scheme. The OL looked more in sync and functional yesterday in the run game, so maybe they're starting to "get it".

That concept has been around for long time. Ohio State, Miss state under Joe Moorhead, and others. I'm not sure why Film Guy don't like it, but that's why I don't really take those podcast/youtube folks seriously at time.

So it basically sounds like combo blocking, doubling the "bigs" working to backers. That is not a new concept, it could probably be argued that it is time proven. Even though I prefer a true gap scheme, I am for any scheme that allows our oline to experience success. There is a lot of beef up there to lean on someone in a double team.

Said it requires better execution more of a nfl scheme. In college he prefers a counter or zone blocking if I’m remembering right.

I think it initiates a double team block to slow the momentum of the rusher and then the assisting OL heads to the 2nd level while the primary OL maintains contain on the rusher.

yeah - this. he's entitled to his opinion on the approach, but we've been running essentially the same thing for years as have lots of other colleges, and honestly a lot of good HS teams do as well. It's not some exotic thing.

Michigan under Harbaugh mainstreamed it in college and it gained traction from there. Everyone and their momma runs inside zone, duo basically is inside zone but allows double teams to get more movement on interior DL. Not sure why he doesn't like it but it is a sound scheme and like almost everything, if executed correctly, can be very profitable.
