Each Year We have gotten better

Just a reminder with each new football season that begins the team under Mike Shula has gotten better! He is recruiting top athletes and top talent and I still think we have two more years to be out from under our probation problems completely.!

i agree things are getting better. Now i'm young; only 21 actually...but what i know is that Shula's first season was my Freshman year here at UA...and that was a rough year. It really has gotten better every year. And although we're not going to going to go 9-0 thru part of the season like last year...we're going to do really well for the youth that we have. You can't expect inexperienced players to play like seniors...but it will come...and this bunch of guys will look really good in given time. ROLL TIDE!!! KILL THE GATORS...SHOW OUR PRIDE IN THE SWAMP THIS WEEKEND!!!!

The only thing I worry about is, if we don't win 10-11 games this year. What will some Bama fans do??? I mean, you have improvement every year and then this year we take a step back. Did Shula spoil us by winning 10 games last year??? Not to say I didn't enjoy it, but still... Also, I think he really needs to beat Auburn this year. They are such a good team, but we need to beat them. I like Shula and I'm done being mad at him for Saturday now and I don't wanna see what some of our idiot fans (most of us are not these idiot fans) will do if we lose to the Barn for a 5th straight time. I'll pull my hair out, but I've got the big picture in mind. And the thing is, the Barners and Viles and all the others don't know what's gonna hit them in the coming years. JPW has just shown a flash of what will be better in time and I really think Shula is putting it all together, if given the time. I'll also say that I gave him a 5 - year cushion. After next year, it's time to compete for the SEC title, beat Auburn and Tennessee on a regular basis and get some national attention at seasons end instead of 9 games in and then flopping. Either that or he'll start being on the hot seat. But, what does my opinion matter???

Agreed. Experience is an important factor in this game of football.

Shula, himself, was a "greenhorn" when he arrived here and he has made some improvements. I may not always agree with his play calling, but there again I'm not the head coach.

Hopefully, we will get better and better with each game and with each season.

I also agree 100% And that is all I can ask for from a Team and Staff that was at rock bottom a couple of years ago...we are not at the top yet....but well on our way!

I am not sure at all that the record will be the same or better than 2005, even though the team may have improved a great deal between this year and last. "Improvement" can't always be measured by the wins and losses year-to-year.

Most people (myself included) saw Bama going 8-4, maybe 7-5. But a brutal SEC road schedule in the even-numbered year would likely mask the fact that this year's team improved over last year's.

We have gotten better. I think last year spoiled us. We had such a special group of seniors and so many things went our way. This year we may be down some on wins but our conference schedule is brutal. We'll see next year when we have so many starters coming back. I just hope we can all be patient (after Saturday I'm beginning to wonder).

I'm sure I am going to ruffle some feathers here, but in the case of the team today, I can put up an argument that winning games isn't a metric we should use to measure improvement by THIS YEAR.

This year is an abberation from the norm. Given our graduating class last year and our schedule we all knew - somewhere deep in our hearts - that we were not going to run the table. Last year's class was VERY talented, true, but somewhat overachieving.

What I want to see is a constant improvement. More complexity in the plays, better execution by the TEAM as a whole, younger players getting stronger, more depth being developed, etc. CMS has done a great job in working slowly and surely to rebuild this PROGRAM (note the use of words here - he isn't rebuilding a team but an entire program) from the cellar that DuBose pushed us into and Fran left us in.

And we do see that. Look at the O Line last year vs. this year. Look at the receivers - we thought that would be a weak spot and look at how well we're doing there. Switch sides of the ball and check out our DB's - near the tops in the nation in terms of interceptions. We lead the country in time of posession and are near the tops in turnover ratio.

So yes, we should win the games we're supposed to (I had Arkansas as a pick'em game in my head) and play well all year. Check. We should improve on our offensive line and learn to pass protect better. Check. We should implement the pro-style offense and have it show success. Check. Develop JPW as a top-tier college starter. BIG Check. Pull out one surprise win from Florida, Tennessee or LSU. Pending. Beat the Barn. Pending.

As I told one friend this morning who called to rail on CMS - look at two coaches hired about the same time to programs in recovery. CMS and Coach Croom.
