Game Thread: Early Bowl Games Thread

I have met some Iowa fans and all have been class acts. They love their coach and know football. Find myself actually pulling for the Hawkeyes in this game for that very reason. Pavia is such a tool.

I said when this game came out it was a bad matchup for Vandy. Iowa is a hard nosed team that can shut down a lot of teams. There struggles usually come when they have to face very athletic teams with a lot of speed. Vanderbilt although having a very good season are probably one of if not the least athletic team in the conference and not a ton of speed on the outside which is how you beat Iowa.

Really? We are discussing strength of conferences by their bowl record? After teams have been off a month, teams have opt outs, etc. here are up to date conference vs conference records so far this season . Even with the horrid SEC Bowl performances, still a decent overall record this season

As the sample size grows I think it becomes more significant. Seems like I remember for most of the last 20 years or so the national champion’s conference usually did really well in the postseason. I’m at work and can’t research it, but I also don’t remember too many national champions that came from conferences with poor-performing bowl teams. Things have changed with the bowl season so maybe it’s not a thing anymore (if it ever was — my memory sucks). I see this as a bad omen, but as long as the good guys win I don’t really care.

Say what you want about Iowa, but their defenses are elite almost every season.

It would not shock me if Vanderbilt turns it around - it is forgotten it seems but that 4th quarter rally vs Texas was a near complete comeback.

You have to wonder what the mentality of these players are, especially for the underclassman willingly playing in these bowl games.

Personally playing on national TV should be an automatic yes decision for any player wanting to be drafted, but that’s just me.

Pavia not too sharp today. Vandy went for it on 4th and 1 from their own 39 yard line. Pavia had a simple pass to an open receiver about a yard downfield and missed him. Must be too busy trying to negotiate another year.
