ESPN Gameday ?

Maybe...

If we beat Florida, we will definitely have Gameday for the Bama/UT game. I think it's awesome personally...but I don't think we've ever won a game when Gameday has been in town. I might be wrong...but I was a student there for the last 5 football seasons...and I don't remember us winning any of those games.

RTR!

At one point, I thought we'd have a chance if we go into the Florida game undefeated, and they do as well. Money says they go to Notre Dame/Purdue if both teams keep up their pace.

However, I think our best shot to get it on campus is the Tennessee game, but that depends on our record going into that game. The only other "marquee" games that week are Michigan/Iowa(Which has lost a LOT of luster), Miami/Georgia Tech, Texas Tech/Texas, and that's really it. So, if all keeps up, we stand a very good shot at getting it that week.

I say that they come to Florida, only if both teams are undefeated. I agree somewhat with Tennesee, but that game will lose its intrigue. The vols play Florida and LSU on the road before coming to T-Town so that is 2 probable losses for them. I could also see gameday coming to the LSU game if it comes down to whoever wins that goes to Atlanta.

I hope they come, it is a real fun atmoshphere with them there.

BTW, does ESPN get first pick on SEC games? If so does that mean all the marquee conference games will be on ESPN this year instead of CBS?

No, CBS still gets first pick most Saturdays. ESPN gets first pick twice a year.

They chose BC/FLA ST over UT/UF this week. That ought to tell you a lot about what ESPN thinks about the SEC.

I seriously doubt they will be in Tuscaloosa, unless the choice is so obvious they cant refuse it. The only time I can remember ESPN coming to town when our game WASNT on ESPN was the GA game a couple years back. ESPN Game Day has become more of a publicity stunt these days. The only games you hear about during the show are ESPN/ABC games. They give a short lil 'prediction' for other games, but thats about it.

Until ESPN gets their heads out of their caboose, and starts paying respect to ALL college games... not just the ones on their stations; dont be expecting them in Tuscaloosa anytime soon.

Unless, ofcourse, it's the week they get first pick... and they just happen to pick our game that week.

As a fan, I love ESPN Gameday, but I think it's a huge distraction for the home team. They are followed around all week and can't fully concentrate on Saturday's game. Plus, I think we're 0-2 when Gameday is on campus.

Wow, just wow. Vols have played 1 game and you have already written them off against both Florida and LSU? LSU? The same "no defense" LSU that would have lost to ASU except for Tds from a blocked field goal and 4&10 miracle. And Florida? No one knows how good they are because they haven't played anyone. I'm glad you've figured it all out so early.

espn and cbs each have draft picks, i think it goes something like this, one network has odd numbers and the other even. i'm not sure of the total number of picks nor of the format. - i hope i didn't confuse you.

lsu's AD informed us of this when we were worried that espn would give up the lsu vs. vol game - they didn't.

back in '96, Gameday was there for the Auburn game. Of course, that was played in Birmingham. However, we did win the game on Riddle's last second touchdown.

tidefan23, You seem to have a lot of faith in a team that just barely beat UAB. Give that game a few more minutes and it may have gone the other way. And I said that the two losses were probable, not definate. I said that because the Florida game is in Gainsville and LSU is in Baton Rouge and probably at night. Two back to back road games in very difficult territories. Oh and UT barely beat UF in Knoxville last year with Zook as UF's coach, Im pretty sure Urban Meyer is going to be a little different. As for LSU, i expect them to work on defense this off week and sometimes all you have to do is outscore the other team and LSU has the capabilities to do just that.

tidefan23, Go back to Knoxville.

I know what you mean. There is definitely a pecking order; however, it is nothing near as equal as you suggest. CBS is the big dog. They get to set aside X number of games first. Then ESPN gets 1. Then CBS gets X number again, then ESPN gets 1. Basically, as I stated before, ESPN gets first pick on only two Saturdays. The remainder of the season, they get second pick. The agreement calls for them to televise up to 18 SEC games per season on either ESPN or ESPN2 with a minimum of 9 games on regular ESPN. JP-TV is always third.

Think about it, CBS is the entity that is standing in the way of the UA/FSU game in 2007 because under the agreement between the schools, FSU would be designated the home team giving ABC the TV rights. If ESPN had a snowball's chance of getting to pick that game, there would be no issue since ESPN is owned by ABC which is owned by Disney.
