Re: Just switched to DirecTV...

I just switched over to Directv last week from Charter. I've had gameplan the last few years but last season did it for me w/ Charter after they blacked out a couple of PPV Bama games we should have been getting with gameplan.

I have the complete 6,000 channel lineup w/ Directv ;) Including all the FSN sports channels, Big10/11 network, etc. My question is, with this will those west coast games be blacked out on FSN networks and thus I need to get gameplan for those, or will I get those games on FSN and only be missing out on the 3 low-end bama games this year?
i have the same package (i think) and most of the time i do not get the west coast games unless i get gameplan.

Is the ESPN Gameplan worth It?

If you have the package can you still watch Alabama games that are pay per view? The cable co. rep could not answer this question for me. Thanks to anyone that help me.:BigA: RTR.

Gameplan is a must have for the diehard Tide fan living way out of state. Those that live in Alabama or states within close proximity need to be careful of the black-out maps.

Unfortunately, quiet often it seems that you miss the first part of the Bama game waiting on the previous gameplan game to finish up.

ESPN Gameplan

ESPNU 2008 NCAA Division I-A Football Schedule

Alabama games scheduled on Gameplan:
August 30 - #24 Alabama at #9 Clemson (GAMEPLAN)
September 6 - Tulane at #24 Alabama (GAMEPLAN)
September 13 - Western Kentucky at #24 Alabama (GAMEPLAN)

Other Alabama games tba later:

In the past it seems like Gameplan has all of the Lincoln Financial Sports (now Raycom) games which are the SEC games not televised by the major networks. They also seem to have some of the pay-per-view games. It looks like maybe the November 1 Arkansas State at Alabama game will be on Gameplan.

It really depends on where you live and what you want from it. As CS mentioned you have to be careful if you are in Alabama or a nearby area in their blackout zone. Also I think if you can get the LF games it loses some of its value. It is great in a place like Philly because you can't get either the pay-per-view or the LF games.

Now if your main intent is to see as much college football as possible regardless of whether it is Bama or not, it is well worth it.

Re: Is the ESPN Gameplan worth It?

When are the black-out maps available?
You can usually find them the week of. Almost always the official blackout area is just the two states that the teams playing in are from. (So for Bama-W.Kentucky, it would show Alabama and Kentucky completely blacked out.)

The frustrating part is that often people find themselves blacked out even when they're outside the listed blackout area. In the past, for instance, cable companies have blacked out games for people in Atlanta a handful of times. Not much rhyme or reason for it, unfortunately. Just gotta cross your fingers and hope it doesn't happen to you.

It is my understanding if you live in Alabama or anywhere there is a local broadcast of Alabama on another network other than ESPN you will be in the black out area.

I looked into this 2 years ago, and did not purchase because I would not be able to get any of the Alabama or Auburn games. Not sure if it has changed since then..

Living in NJ looks like I have 2 choices. The ESPN Gameplan which I can watch on tv or CBS College Sports XXL which I can watch on line. Does anyone have any familiarity with CBS XXL? The Gameplan is cheaper though, about $10 than CBS XXL.
