The 2020 team was just absurdly good. Florida gave us a little scare, but no one else was competitive in the 4th quarter. There is really only one other team I can think of that compares in my years of watching college football since the mid 80s and that’s 95 Nebraska and that was a much easier schedule.

Toss up, IMO. Ask the same group again next year and they might swap them up. They are 1a & 1b.
It seems like 2020 Bama doesn’t get the credit it deserves. A lot of people don’t even consider it a real title. 2019 LSU was great, but almost lost to both the Barn and Bama. 2020 Bama literally played with their food the whole season. People will mention the UF game, but that game was never in doubt. The only one that gave me a slight scare was the Ole Miss game.

If you think about it, 2019 Alabama almost beat 2019 LSU. It was very close. And 2020 Alabama was better than 2019 Alabama. So I think 2020 Alabama could very well have beaten 2019 LSU.
As good as that 2019 LSU team was, they didn't really hit their stride until midway through the season. They had tight games with Texas and Auburn. After the game with us, they were just a machine. I remember when Najee and Devonta said they were coming back after the 2019 season thinking we would be really good. Little did we know at the time. From start to finish, that team was unstoppable.

Their defense was horrible at the beginning of the season and gradually improved.

Agreed, no way is 2023 Michigan on that list. And I also have issue with both UGA teams before our second one. I think multiple Bama teams beat both of them. I mean 2021 Bama whipped that 2021 UGA team. 2022 Georgia should have lost to OSU.

I wonder if we will ever see teams like that again. Maybe we will, but certainly not frequently, and I don't know yet if that's a good or bad thing. Even though Michigan marched through their schedule last year, they probably weren't better than either of the UGA national title teams.

I wouldn't describe it as I "enjoyed" watching the 2019 LSU team dominate, but I watched every minute of their games after they played us. There was an appreciation for what I was watching. I don't know that we will see that much going forward. We've certainly discussed extensively the impact that NIL and the portal has had, but I think COVID indirectly had an impact as well on team and conference dynamics and all of this happened around the same time.

The unknown is how the expanded playoff will impact an elite team's ability to win a national title. The 2019 LSU and 2020 Alabama teams could have played in a 64 team playoff and still would have won the national title, if they stayed healthy, and we kind of weren't by the end of the national title game (Dickerson and Smith gone). Playing 3-4 games against a high level of competition over the course of one month is going to lend itself to some injuries in the playoffs that will be difficult to overcome for teams, including the favorites, with rosters more thinned out.

Love 2020 Alabama but man that LSU team with Burrow, Chase and Jefferson was something. Felt like every time they HAD to score they did. Burrow was a machine that year.
