Yes. Flat as a flitter out there. Still.... 'West TN' and 'Naval Base' together....
It seemed weird to me when I first heard of it. When I was in college, the dad of one of my old frat brothers was the CO there in Millington and later at the Mare Island base near San Francisco. I went to the change of command at Mare Island. That was pretty cool.

Durian fruit. Worst decision of my life. Even Andrew Zimmern wouldn't eat it. This stuff would gag a maggot.
Heh. My wife - and it seems all Vietnamese - love durian. The fruit smells god-awful. In fact, the saying is durian "smells like hell; tastes like heaven." I don't know about the latter; I can't get past the former.

Also, there is/was a Duran Duran cover band in Vietnam named Durian Durian.

I travel quite a bit in SE Asia and they all love it. I was in Myanmar when I tried it. It is connected to Buddhism somehow (at least in Burma anyway). As for the smell and taste, I'd say it both smells and tastes like hell. Most hotels in SE Asia won't allow you to bring it into your room if you buy it. If the fruit gets into the carpet they told me it's almost impossible to get the smell out. No hotel I've stayed in would allow it in their rooms.

Various Cajun dishes in NOLA & elsewhere in S. LA. ;)

Two close calls under the "almost" category:
A) duck blood soup in Poland - a buddy (a Pole) ordered it for me. Couldn't get it done. He confessed that he doesn't eat it either, & that he was hoping I'd try it so he could laugh at me.

B) a spicy chicken foot - a friend from China brought it to me when he came back from a visit. Picture a chicken foot, freeze-dried & shrink-wrapped. I didn't have to courage for that one either.

Ironically, there's a fairly high chance that the chicken foot originally came from S. MS; a processing co. just up the road discovered a vast market in China for the feet that they were discarding. Small world, etc.

i ate chicken hearts while in brazil. i wouldnt say that is all exotic but i definitely dont eat organs from other animals. the heart is a muscle so i went with it. if it is lungs or brains or kidneys then no way in hell.

anyway these chicken hearts were incredible. they tasted like steak, and were marinated or seasoned in a pretty scrumptious way i must say. however you can tell when you bite through one of the valves so that threw me off just a tad. id definitely have them again. if i wasnt in brazil there is no way i would have tried them.

I had chicken necks in Charleston, MS a couple years ago. Not exotic, but new to me. Was extremely fitting, in that tiny town. Little diner on the square....cool place

This place I used to work had some trees around the parking lot that had fruit about the size of large grapes, sort of pink in color, that smelled like barf when crushed. A group of Asian women would gather them up every year and take them away. Dont remember what they did with them but we called them puke fruit.
