Question: Explain the ratings differences between Scout.com, Rivals.com and others

How pray tell can the barn be ranked higher than Texas or Bama looking at the average in the last column??
Utterly ridiculous!!

And I know stars mean absolutely nothing!!

Scout can use what ever bonehead formula they want to rank teams. I'll take what info I want from their site, which is star ranking. That's puts us at number two behind Texas. So that makes us first on rivals, second on espn and scout. We win. Simple.

But some of scouts rankings are ridiculous. 3 stars for Vinnie S and Douglas. Mmmkkk. After Vinnie's performance at the UA game they should have upped him. And the accolades Douglas received as a freshman at UT make you scratch your head at a 3 rating. But oh well, everyone in the south pays attention to rivals anyways. At least the fans do. I'm betting AL.com....I mean AU.com uses scouts as a soap box.

Scout doesn't hate us. 2008 we're rated number one, 2009 number two, 2010 number four, this year number six. Wait a sec, we've dropped every year since CNS started!!! You're right. I agree, but it is hard to make sense of their ratings. AU has 2 top 100 players, (2) 5 stars, the #1 OG, and a 3.75 average star rating and 24 commits. We have 8 top 100 players, (3) 5 stars, the #1 ranked OT, S, ILB, and a 3.83 average star rating and 23 commits. If they had like 30 players and we had 23 you could say they have more points based on more players. That would somewhat understandable, but its hard to understand how you call that class better than our, based on their own rankings. It doesn't matter, because there's no way I would trade our class for their's and we filled our needs, but it just looks weird.

Deciding who has the number 1 recruiting class is arbitrary. We don't put trophies up for being the Scout, Rivals, or ESPN "Number 1 Class."

After further review I have determined the reason no one understands the Scout system is because they use an Auburn math formula devised by Dr. Clem Cornfield.

I think I read once that the Scout formula looks at how each recruit fills a particular need. Since the barn lost everyone, their decent recruits received more points because they basically needed every position. Not sure if this is accurate but it makes sense.

My issue isn't so much AU being ranked ahead of us, rather how can we be ranked 1 by Rivals and 6 by Scout? Fluctuation of one or two positions I can understand, but five- Redwood's AU math theory has to be the answer here.

I had a professor who reportedly had the letters A-F prominently marked on the floor in his home's entrance. Supposedly after an exam he would stand at the top of the stairs with the ungraded papers, release his grip and let them land where they may, thus determining the grade.

This seems to be the most simple and accurate assessment of the recruiting classes. Coach Saban and staff have landed another great group of football players, and we should be very happy about that and not get caught up worrying about Auburn or any other school for anything other than degrees of comparison. Auburn did sign a very good group of players, and we will now see which staff can mold the players into the best team next year. Roll Tide!

Scouts feel that a HS kid contributes more with 5 years to play 4 than a JUCO kid that has 3 years to play 2. I think you get about 60% value compared to the same talent coming out of HS. Even though Bama inked 3 of the top 25 JUCO players, it hurt us with scout. Just their scoring system

Scout.com and unfortunately that includes Bama Mag, lost me a while ago. I could care less about their rankings & ratings, stars or otherwise. They seem to go out of their way to under rate Bama signees in my opinion. Bama signees who are All-Americans are rated 3-stars by them on a regular basis.

Alabama is #1 on Rivals.com, #1 on CBS Sports Max Preps, and #2 even on the wacky ESPN rankings. So who cares where Scout.com ranks the 2011 Alabama signing class? I know I don't really worry about or follow where Scout.com rates or ranks Alabama signees or the signing class.

I never understood why recruiting sites set a predetermined number of 5*'s each year they give out..If a recruit is worthy of a 5*..Give it to him..Another thing that peeves me are the Special Teams Rankings..The highest rated kicker are usually given 3*'s at the most..If you're the best at your position..You should be a 4* or 5*..
