I wondered if anyone else here has tried the Marketocracy site ? I know one day I saw one of my fellow members interviewed on Good Morning America who happened to live 15 miles up the road . For those not famiiliar with the site it is vaguely like a stock picking contest but more serious in nature . This site acts as an information conduit for a group of real mutual funds that are attempting to make cash off the stock selections of its members . ( MOFQX is the fund that bases it's selections on the holdings of the m100 ) Small funds so far ... only about 68 million in assets right now but the site has generated lots of publicity in financial journals . Portfolios created there are charged commissions to buy or sell and have other real world expenses taken out of your "picks" so your final results more accurately mirror what your results in the real world might have been if you had used the same strategy .
Anyways ... it is great fun and 100 % free to particpate and in fact some people use the site just to learn about the market and track imaginary portfolios they created. You don't have to be part of the rankings to use the site but being in the m100 does pay you real cash . The founder of this site and the funds created a tech mutual fund in 1994 that had at its peak 8 billion in assets . He thinks this fund will exceed that amount and I can tell you that already with only 68 million in assets I have been paid a few hundred dollars for having funds in the m100 which I created for free and only worked on as I wanted to (Was a big game for me and still is but getting checks in the mail for playing fantasy football with stocks is great
