I saw someone post this on X, but can't find it now. We've talked a lot about OL and RB problems, but the problems at WR have been masked by some pretty decent portal additions, while our talent evaluation and development has not been good at all.

  • Agiye Hall (transferred to Texas)
  • Aaron Anderson (transferred to LSU)
  • JoJo Earle (transferred to TCU)
  • Traeshon Holden (transferred to Oregon)
  • Christian Leary (transferred to UCF, then Georgia Tech)
  • Javon Baker (transferred to UCF)
  • Thaiu Jones-Bell
  • Tyler Harrell (transferred to Miami)
  • Ja'Corey Brooks (transferred to Louisville)
  • Malik Benson (transferred to Florida State)
  • Isaiah Bond (transferred to Texas)
  • Shazz Preston (transferred to Tulane)
  • Caleb Odom (listed as a TE/WR, transferred to Ole Miss)
  • Amari Jefferson (transferred to Tennessee)
  • Jaren Hamilton (transferred to Arizona State)

Most of those guys also did little after they transferred as well. Holden had a solid two years at Oregon and is on the Cowboys practice squad. Anderson has played for LSU. Many of them just fizzled out.

but we also had some move on and do pretty well. Baker did great at UCF and Brooks had a good final year also. Benson had a decent role in the rotation at Oregon. Law had a pretty reasonable year at kentucky and I would have loved to have had him in the slot for us this year instead of RW.

Law didn't do very well at Kentucky. He had 500 yards receiving and 3 TD's. He basically averaged 45 yards receiving per game and 4 receptions. Honestly, he should have stayed put like several people told him to. But, for Bama, it opened the door for Brooks to play and show out. So it probably worked out more for Bama than it did for Law.

Bottom Line -- we missed none of them. We had/have plenty of talented wide receivers. We just need some quality road graders on OL.

If our best players at any position group over a for year period are transfers, that's a horrible red flag! I think that Oline is the start of our problems, but how did we end up with that many busts? Either failure to evaluate or failure to develop.

Yes. Most of them transferred because Saban retired and not because DeBoer became the next coach. A few of them had some attitude problems and probably needed to go anyway.

In the old world, that would be true. In the new world of the transfer portal era, I'm not so sure that's the case anymore. The four teams left standing right now all leaned in very, very deep into the portal...

I don't like the title of the thread.... Just because it didn't work out here at Alabama. I don't think the staff really whiffed on evaluations on those guys. At that time, it was a sure thing. You can't just assume a recuit is going to have a success here at Alabama.

  • Agiye Hall (transferred to Texas) <-- Would've been an impact player for Alabama/Texas if he didn't get in his own way. Immature issue. Talent wasn't an issue.
  • Aaron Anderson (transferred to LSU) <- Talent wasn't an issue.
  • JoJo Earle (transferred to TCU) <-- Talent wasn't an issue. he didn't do too bad at TCU.
  • Traeshon Holden (transferred to Oregon) <- Talent wasn't an issue. He didn't do too bad at Oregon
  • Christian Leary (transferred to UCF, then Georgia Tech)<- Talent isn't issue.. He showed out at GT.
  • Javon Baker (transferred to UCF)<- Behavior issue. Talent wasn't an issue. He did okay at UCF
  • Thaiu Jones-Bell <- That was weird situation.
  • Tyler Harrell (transferred to Miami) <- Wasn't an issue. He did okay
  • Ja'Corey Brooks (transferred to Louisville)<- Brooks was real good. Just didnt work out
  • Malik Benson (transferred to Florida State) <- I think we missed on this.
  • Isaiah Bond (transferred to Texas)<- talent wasn't an issue... He showed out At Alabama and Texas
  • Shazz Preston (transferred to Tulane) <- He actually did well
  • Caleb Odom (listed as a TE/WR, transferred to Ole Miss)
  • Amari Jefferson (transferred to Tennessee)
  • Jaren Hamilton (transferred to Arizona State)
The last three... I think we missed.

So bottom line, I hate the misleading title.. and I hate the perspective that's being placed about those WRs and their time at Alabama.

We have not had an outstanding wide receiver receruited out of HS since Metchie, who was very good, not great. That’s not good.

Brooks got in Saban’s dog house and Odom got in DeBoer’s… Jalen Milroe was a part of both getting in the house but from different points of view.
iirc, brooks dropped a pass late in the 2021 ncg that would have gone for a td or at least have put us deep into the redzone with a chance to tighten the game up
