Fall signees announced

From BA:
Jared Avchen (C/6'1/200/Melbourne, FL)
Avchen is a strong and mature 6-0 junior catcher from Florida with a strong lower body and flexible upper half. He has excellent arm strength behind the plate and was 80 mph down to second in workouts with a low pop time of 1.87. His game throws were very accurate and his arm is a real weapon. Avchen hits out of a very, very wide stance. Avchen does create good bat speed because of his natural strength but there is much more there with some adjustments. Overall, Avchen is a solid catching prospect for the next level and should keep improving. He is also an outstanding student.

From Perfect Game:
Mike Meschke (1B/6'2/215/Marietta, GA)
At 6-2/215 he has a big strong body. He plays a very good 1B, nice hands, covers ground. His future revolves around his outstanding hitting ability. He will hit for average and he will hit the long ball. Natural power hitter, can hit good pitching, uses the whole field, high level prospect with the bat.

Bill Rowell (SS/3B/6'4/198/Sewell, NJ)
Great athletic frame, very good speed for his size, strong arm across the IF, good range, good actions defensively, nice hands, loft in swing, plus bat speed, ball explodes off bat, big time power potential, good extension, doesn't get cheated with his swing, will be a major run producer at the next level, Has size, tools, will create tons of scouting interest.

Brandon May (INF/6'1/180/Marietta, GA)
Brandon May is a 2006 infielder from Marietta, GA with a good muscular build at 6-1, 180 lbs. very strong arm, nice hands, very good actions, quick transfer and release, runs well, good bat speed, shows strength in swing, good power to all fields, makes solid contact, ball explodes off bat, can really play and plays hard, highest level prospect.

Del Howell (LHP/6'4/180/Tuscaloosa)
Tall slender build at 6-4, 180 lbs. arm works well, throws downhill, good balance, solid mechanics, nice and easy delivery, 90 mph FB with run, decent 1-7 break on CB, has lots more velocity in him, highest level prospect with big time projectability, good student

Austin Evans (RHP/6'3/185/Tampa)
Good pitcher's build at 6-3, 195 lbs. fast clean arm, medium effort, smooth mechanics, stays tall, works quick, downward plane on 91 mph FB, nasty 11-5 CB at 74 mph with good depth, sharp slurve at 78 mph, good command, projectable, highest level prospect with good draft potential, good student

Vince DiFazio (C/6'2/220/Indian River CC)
Strong-bodied catcher with some powerful actions. He is a good receiving catcher with a strong arm. He showed 78-80 mph velocity on his throw downs to second base and is agile for a big guy behind the plate. He has ability in all other defensive areas that will play at the next level right away. Has a good powerful swing; shows power the other way. He can swing the bat, flashed power, has a balanced approach and good hitting mechanics.

From alaprospects.com:
Jake Smith (INF/RHP/6'3/180/Hueytown)
Jake is a nice athletic RHP/IF with advanced skills and a power arm. He runs very average and will likely be moved to a corner infield position at the next level or to the hill. He is a competitor and "hooks up" between the lines. Defensively he is sound with a soft glove, fluid actions, quick releases and above HS average range. His arm is loose and effortless in action FROM a H3/4 slot. He hits with a nice approach, good bat speed and power to the gaps, but occasionally gets too long with his stroke. While he pitches well, we see his furture as a 3B or corner outfielder.

does anyone know anything about the catcher fron Al.
J.J. Baswell... cant find much

big numbers but is 2A ball any good

The level of competition in Class 2A isn't particularly strong, so I guess one would have to take that into consideration when comparing those statistics to others. However, by no means does the fact that a guy played at a smaller school necessarily mean that he won't be able to make the adjustment to the SEC - Andy Phillips came from tiny Demopolis Academy, where he played against what was probably the weakest competition in the state.

bamajake has some good info on Baswell in this thread: http://www.tidefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36806

Wells let another get out of town. David Kindred a teammate of Del Howell signed with Ole Miss for next year. The kids a great fielder with an even better bat. I watched him crush a ball down the right field line 2 years ago at the State Championship and watched him hit the second floor of a house in Georgia that was 400 ft. away from home plate behind the right field wall.
