Just wondered if anyone had a favorite appetizer for the holidays?

I think mine are sausage balls; however, I haven't had a single one yet this season! Guess I'll have to make my own batch.

My Mom went to a party Saturday night and said one of the fav's there was a piece of conecuh sausage wrapped in bacon (secured by a toothpick). The host couldn't pull them out of the oven quick enough.

I have been making some today for one of our family Christmas gatherings tomorrow.

Stuffed Cherry Tomatoes - cut the tops off cherry tomatoes, remove some of the insides and stuff with crab salad.

Deviled eggs - some traditional and some filled with crab salad topped with caviar.

Bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops from the grill. (cooked tomorrow)

Egg Nog

Chocolate covered pretzels.

This Christmas Dinner will be Grilled Rib Eye steak, Loaded Twice Baked Potatoes, small salad and a Santa Cake from the store.

Pork wrapped with pork has to be tasty. :)

Does a large can of smoked almonds count :)

I'm also a huge fan of Conecuh sausage and will be dining on a batch of it shortly - the ol' breakfast for dinner thing tonight .

As a starter I like to make a batch of maple-mustard and slice up some extra sharp cheddar cheese and pepper jack cheese with Ritz crackers to pair with the Conecuh . Awesome stuff :cool2:

I like cheddar cheese with mustard and crackers. Extra salt too but my doctor disagrees with this toxic dish. ;)

Yumm... Christmas dinner at your house sounds delicious Bayou!

This reminded me of a snack my neighbor makes -- peanut butter, chocolate dipped Bugels. Stuff them with peanut butter, then dip them in chocolate.

Those look insane. I have to make some.

I was in a store and saw a package of peanut butter filled pretzel bites. I wish I had bought them just to taste them. Have you tried those?

Dinner is going to be quick and easy. Fire up the grill, burn some meat, warm up the precooked taters and set the table. Hope I get some good presents and hope everyone else does too. :)

Ok...I am showing my ignorance here ...but what is Conecuh sausage ?

It's the brand name of a link sausage. Some think it's the best there is but more than likely it's the best they have available to them. I have had a lot better but it's ok for store bought sausage in Alabama.

Along the lines of Chappell Hill Sausage here in Texas I guess.

Bayou is correct -- here in Alabama, it's one of the best available.

My favorite: Pepper Jelly with cream cheese and ritz crackers.

3 green bell pepper, minced
2 (4 ounce) cans diced jalapeno peppers
1 1/2 cups distilled white vinegar
6 1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 (6 fluid ounce) container liquid pectin
5 drops green food coloring

In a large, stainless steel saucepan, combine peppers, vinegar, sugar, and cayenne pepper. Cook over medium high heat. Stir frequently until mixture begins to boil.
  1. Stir in pectin; boil 5 minutes longer, stirring constantly, and mix in food coloring. Skim off foam, and remove from heat.
  2. Ladle into sterilized jars. Seal, and process in a boiling-water canner for 5 minutes.
  3. Chill
  4. Pour jelly over a block of softened cream cheese and eat with Ritz crackers

I love those little pigs in a blanket, little smokies wrapped in strips of biscuit or crescent roll dough! Not healthy at all, but oh so good! And Rotel dip!
