Is the Texas band better than their team or something? Cause I'm pretty sure they're getting more air-time than the game. :p_razz:

I'll be honest, this game is looking much closer than I expected it to be. Ohio State is looking pretty good. Maybe the Buckeyes have just gotten it together, or perhaps Texas just is having a bit mental and emotional letdown because they didn't make the title game?

Glendale, Arizona, and more specifically University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals.
Thank You! Had A brain fart!:)

I wouldn't be surprised at all. Texas disappointed + OSU feeling like they have something to prove = upset?
Maybe an upset, but at the least it has been closer than expected to date.

Still, though, you have to feel pretty good if you are Texas. Ohio State has controlled the game for the most part so far, and yet they are down only 6-3. It's certainly not like the other night when Utah jumped up on us 21-0 before some people even made it to their seats.

Maybe I'm just not paying attention, but what are the 'g' commercials supposed to be about exactly. I noticed they played it during the Sugar Bowl and right after it ended my wife asked me what it was about and I had to say I didnt know...:conf2:

Texas has the #2 ranked rush defense in the country? It shows how deceiving stats can be when they play in the Big 12 against teams that pass fifty times a game.

It's the new Gatorade commercials. G = Gatorade.

I don't know if they are really going away from the Gatorade brand name or what, but perhaps they are. If you recall, they've been pushing the G2 stuff really hard the past year or two.

Either way, they are still better to me than that insufferable commercial they've been running for about the past ten years now with the two old Florida coots.

I don't know either. It's all very strange. I understand getting attention, but if you're going to spend tons of money to advertise, wouldn't you want people to know what you're advertising? Maybe they'll explain during the MNC game Thursday.

Exactly.

That's why you never look to general counting statistics that just give you a raw number. You see mistakes being made with that all the time because the raw numbers provide absolutely no context whatsoever. A lot of supposedly great run defenses just don't get ran on very often, a lot of teams supposedly great at sacking the quarterback just face a lot of pass attempts, etc.

The secret to Texas' great run defense is not that they are particularly good at stopping the run, but that they haven't played many teams who wanted to run the ball, nor have they played many teams particularly effective at running the ball. Any time you do that, even a halfway decent run defense is going to look very good with raw rushing numbers.

And for the record, Texas faced the fewest number of rushing attempts this year (317) of any Division 1-A football team.

I thought it might be a close game with the better OSU defense but a little slow vs fast Texas offense and then slow OSU offense versus the bad Big 12 defense.

So far a little less scoring than I thought. I'm was thinking 31-27 Texas.

Huge stop by Ohio State.

I have two questions...

(1) Is Texas really overrated, or failed to show up?

(2) Where the hell has this Ohio State team been the past three years?

I don't know exactly what the Buckeyes have done differently, but this doesn't look like the same bunch we saw two years ago against Florida, last year against LSU, or through the first twelve games this year.

This is a big wasted opportunity by Ohio State. They failed to capitalize on the great field position caused by the turnover on downs, and now they give up a personal foul penalty and a big passing play.

Suddenly, the Buckeyes go from possibly going into the half up 13-3 to this being a tie ball game, at best.

You know, Ohio State would be in a much better shape if Pryor would just finish runs instead of going out of bounds. That has cost them at least three first downs so far. I swear, he's an incredible athlete, but he plays the game like its two-hand touch.
True. I'm not sure if he is trying to avoid hits or if he just has no awareness of where he is on the field. Either way it is hurting his team.

I've had my doubts about the Big 12 all season. Watching their games I was really aggravated at the lack of defense. Sure there was a lot of offense but I think it was a combination of good offense with average or worse defense. Before Bama lost to UF I had a Nebraska fan friend telling me he thought we couldn't handle OU but I told him that really the Big 12 hasn't proven much to me until they go outside of conference and go up against a strong defense.

This game still has a half to go and Texas could easily snap out of their funk and get things going and OU could beat UF in a few days but I really think the Big 12 has gotten too much love for their offense when their D hasn't been there. I guess i'm just a defensive guy so I love to watch good old fashion knock you around defense and I don't think Texas or TT have been prepared for that type of smash mouth football so far.
