FIFA thread...

Belgium's argument seems to be that FIFA can't suspend punishments. It can, under Article 27, which is exactly what it has done in this case. It hasn't done it since 1962, but in that case, it was done for a final match, so much heavier consequences. The problem is VAR, which roughly equates to our instant replay, except not nearly so many angles and views. It can be helpful, as in "was the player's toe past the offside line?" or our equivalent - "was the nose of the ball past the first down line?" OTOH, had, in the case of frantic, high speed action, as in this case, it can be horribly misleading. And was. No matter what the pipsqueaks say, FIFA was well within its rights and Balogun will serve his minimum one year probation. Belgium would have done well to keep its mouth shut, since it seems "dog in the manger." They had the US in a (unjustified) weak spot. Now, they're going to have face a full strength team. Makes prep for both teams difficult, on this short notice. I suspect that it'll be a long time before we see a similar situation, but it will also be caused by VAR. BTW, the ref was accused of match fixing in Brazil but was cleared...

Im just now casually following soccer and these "rules" are insanely subjective. A toe or elbow being offsides? A red card gets you on probation for a year? A F2 foul in college basketball only gets you a suspension for the next game.

On top of that it's notoriously corrupt. I think some refs were barred from the US as PNGs...

Everything Trump touches turns to crap.

Belgium was extra motivated, and the US played it worse game of the tournament.
He probably bet against the US if truth be told...

We think everything he touches turns to crap. He says he never loses. Think about that for a minute...

He probably orchestrates a position where he does win ahead him playing the spoil or victim whatever the opportunity demands...

Belgium was always going to persevere. They have top ranked players at top ranked clubs. Only 8 countries have ever won the World Cup. The US has miles to go before even getting into the quarter finals (top 8 teams).

I think FIFA will do what they can to get the WC back in America. We have world class stadiums - and FIFA has eclipsed the money they have made already over the last WC. FIFA likes money.

Somewhere around 11 billion -- and the cities have to pay their own expenses. Corporations are paying a bundle for advert -- but they are making a bundle as well.
