Video: Film Guy on The Next Round - Is Ty the best QB in the SEC?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I think in the last two games Ty has shown some weaknesses in his game, not saying he's still not one of the best QB's in the country. But the more reps he gets the better he's going to get. I want to see how he and the offense starts to adjust on the back part of the season now that there's enough tape for future opponents to find tendencies and patterns and to gameplan for them. I'm curious to see how Ty and the offense (Grubb) adjust to the defense's adjustments. I think South Carolina did an excellent job of putting some stuff on tape for teams to look at. I'm hoping we'll self scout that tape heavily and go ahead and correct them.

I agree. But I also think the true issue is the OL. No QB and no offense or game plan works if the OL isn’t at least moderately reliable.

Ditto here... OL and blocking must improve for us in our stretch run more so than any other area.

Solidfy that and tighten up the D a bit and we will be salty.

The coaches have clearly worked hard on this and used extra OL, I hope we can improve things.

He's definitely one of the best. Probably has the least effective run game of basically any of the other top QBs in the country. I'm sure he's up there in drops too. OL is meh but probably not the worst despite what we saw vs SC.

If Ryan Williams were playing better I think Ty's numbers would skyrocket. Horton and Bernard, while good, are not nearly as explosive as RW and it feels like that is what our offense is missing at times(besides a consistent run game).

Williams has dropped more than his fair share this season. I agree, if he could clean that up we'd definitely have a legitimate deep threat.

I honestly think we need to put Bernard in the backfield more. He's got the best vision of anybody on the team with the ball in his hands. I'd do this selectively and I'd run him wide, but it would give defenses something to think about, plus he great a great receiver out in the flats with the ball in his hands.

Separately, on the OL, how did they play such a great game against UGA this year? Ty was hardly touched in the game. It's just maddening that they can play so differently from game to game.

I'd like to see the off week work for Ryan be......keep your feet kid, stop diving and jumping when you absolutely don't have to. If he did that, some of his drops probably don't happen.

The Film Guy actually addresses this saying he doesn’t know why UGA didn’t bother to speed rush Proctor by lining someone up wide like a LB or S and just run around him. They chose to go right at him and let him get his hands on them.

I would presume Kirby still likes big bodies on the DL and has less speed to work with... Much like Saban earlier in his run. Kirbs is still playing in the 2008-2012 era in many ways.
