Why is everyone so worried about someone using the Bama job as a stepping stone to another job? It is what it is. If our job is as great as we think it is then they won't leave? Even if they did, it's just business. If I had scrutinized all the people I have hired over the last 20 years with the requirement that they had to be someone who would stay with the company until retirement I would be working all alone. People don't stay with one company their entire career any more. Why would football coaches? It's a job people. You hire the best person you can find. Always. That's the hallmark of all well run businesses.:conf3:

Folks we need to get real and realize that saban is not coming to the tide. He has made it clear on more than one occasion that he does not want to be here.He is using us muck like crr used us and the sooner we realize this the better off we will be. We need to get one of the up and coming young coaches who may be here for awhile and get us back to our rightful position in the football world.
If Saban comes, he is a 2 year fix before he runs to the NFL again. Do we really need a 2 year band aid again and to add to the coaching turnover? Saban is like putting a band aid on cancer.
HOW MANY PEOPLE can post the EXACT same thing!... and then have a mod set them straight?..........

Just not much new to report right now. We still maintain Alabama will wait for Saban's final answer, which obviously hasn't come yet. From there, we go down our other option list.
I think Alabama is using this time to structure their list, feel coaches out and decide who they're going to target if Saban turns the job down for good.
Of the coaches whose names have come up in recent days, I don't believe Tommy Bowden will be part of the final search list. Unfortunately, the Houston Nutt rumor won't die. I think it would be one of the worst decisions Alabama could ever make to bring him to UA, so hopefully it won't work out like that.
The other college coaches -- Johnson, Grobe, Schiano, Kragthorpe -- are really all in a grab-bag. At least two on that list have issued "coachspeak denials" for other jobs, so we'll have to wait out Saban first and then see if it even gets to this level.
The newest name with buzz around it is Rick Neuheisel, which is kind of scary given his Jerry Tarkanian-esque rep with the good folks down at the NCAA. I don't even know that he'd pass the backgroun check. Then, I don't know if Alabama is serious. On top of that, he has a bad habit of leaving programs worse off than when he found them.
If that sounds like I've gone from merely observing the search to hoping Saban is the guy in order to avoid a screw-up as we move to our B-list ... you'd be exactly right. It's not making my Christmas digestion any easier, I promise.

Thanks Jess. If we do not get NS, my take is no way to do we go after TB or RN, etc. I would prefer an up and comer whoever that it as opposed to what could be called a re-tread. John Gruden would have some merit, he may work out like PC at USC.

I think your probably right about Saban now. I guess he's the best of the rest at this point. Lol! So when do you think we should begin to see some news being made again? Are we looking at ...oh, 2 weeks from now? Should things begin to move more rapidly once the NFL regular season is finished?
