Gator,

You said it correctly.

Bama has it's low class fans just like FL has. I wish that was not the case, but it is.

You can look at this board and FL boards and fine plenty of nuts.

Good luck come Saturday. I just hope it is a clean game and fans get in and out safe. Life goes on, win or loose, but I sure do hope we win.

CPB was special to us Bama fans, but he was concerned about life after football, just as much as he was concerned about winning football games.

And whatever bad rep LSU fans have (and I experienced some doozies last year in Tuscaloosa), after the AU/LSU game this year, they were very nice and respectful and held my door open (maybe b/c I had on black instead of orange and blue). You don't hear about those guys often. It is the squeaky wheel that gets the oil.

How do you think rival teams feel about your rammer jammer cheer? The "got twelve?" t-shirts are cool. You have every right to be proud of that, but pride is often mistaken for arrogance. I'm not bashing you guys, just trying to give you another perspective. I'll bet some poster will come back after this post and set me straight.
Haven't seen it happen yet. I truly believe the reason some don't like Rammer Jammer is because it isn't their cheer. I can guarantee you that if that cheer were Florida's, especially the way you guys crave offense and scoring, that if you were in the middle of 80k+ at Ben Hill Griffin after a win and your version of Rammer Jammer got cranked up, you would think it was the coolest thing ever. Every fan base has things they do that rivals absolutely despise.

But you guys do seem to have a corner on the jorts market.;)

I have always hated that cheer. I graduated in 1982 and went to all of the home games. Didn't like it as a student & I don't like it now.

Now, I've been to many games in BDS, several of them BIG games, and I have never once seen a Bama fan act in the way this guy describes. And the other Florida fans are just lapping it up. It's no big deal, but it just goes to show that you really cannot believe everything you read.
I took a friend who is a Florida fan to our game last year. He was worried ahead of time because he had heard bad things about our fans. I told him not to worry, Bama fans are class acts. Well, as it turns out, we sat behind a drunk redneck who wouldn't leave him alone. And as we were leaving a couple of frat guys taunted him. Other than that, everybody was really nice to him (he even got a couple of free beers on the quad), but a few bad apples made us all look bad. Every team has bad apples. If you think we don't, you're deluding yourself.

I have always loved that cheer. I graduated in 1989 and went to all of the home games. I liked it as a student & I like it now.

Different strokes bro. That's all.

I don’t buy into your supposition of “the shoe on the other foot.” If, as you say, other schools would enjoy such a cheer as ours then why don't they use one like ours? (rhetorical question only)

The only other cheer that I can think that is worse than Rammer Jammer is Ol' Miss's. Which, by the way, is the inspiration for our cheer. Both cheers have something in common - they reek of arrogance.

I’m in the minority and that’s okay. Not trying to change anyone’s mind. Just want you to realize that RJ cheer can be viewed by others as arrogant, not the harmless fun cheer as you and many like yourself feel it to be.

I think if you act with class, you get treated with class. I don't seem to remember OU fans talking about how Bama fans were classless in our recent experiences with them. And vice versa, they had some of the nicest fans you'd ever meet. When you act like a jerk usually there are two ways a person can respond to you, a) they can simply ignore you or b) they can treat you like a jerk. Obviously option A is more difficult and when you add alcohol to the mix, it's close to impossible. Of course, there are a lot of jerks out there!

The original version just didn't sound scary enough:

Hey team! Hey team! Hey team!
We thought you played a good game!
Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, maybe next time!

Rammer Jammer should only be used for special victories over bitter rivals and only if the margin of victory is big enough. It loses it's effect when it done after a nail-biter or against a weak-sister opponent. I'd also prefer that it only be limited to SEC opponents, kinda keep it in the family so to speak. No point in doing it to respected OOC opponents, thereby exporting ill will.

I agree with you Tommy, that we really don't need to play it after we squeaked out a win. I mean does a field goal really dictate beating "the hell out of" someone?

I went to "The Swamp" afew years back when they played S Car for Homecoming. I wore my Bama apparel and didn't have a lick of trouble. Everyone was nice and accomodating. I was at Neyland when we beat them in 2002 (I believe) and got booed the minute I stepped on the bus to the stadium. It was ok though, they were real quiet on the return to the parking lot.

Each school has its rotten apples, but you'll find there are class acts eveywhere. I just have a hard time believing a whole fan base acts a certain way. Besides I recieved two degrees from Alabama and anyone who believes that all of our fans and students are angels are SERIOUSLY misguided.

I always thought the other version was:

Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, hope you enjoyed your stay in Alabama!

Bama and UGA are the class of the SEC???? I must disagree with UGA having any class at all. They are by far the most putrid classless foul-mouthed rednecks I have ever been near (special exception for drunken LSU fan around 11PM). I was stuck at Clemson (Barn-North) for a couple yrs and hated it. The only team I rooted for Clemson to beat was UGA simply bc dawg fans are so stupid and annoying. UGA was even mentioned in Si about how their frat boys would pee off of the top of the stadium onto the fans in line outside. They are complete trash. In fact anytime someone acted like a complete *** in Clemson, the common apology from his friends would be "Don't mind him, he is a Georgia fan." To tie this in with the UF fans, I have talked smack to them for a number of yrs, and while they are arrogant and juvenile they are still humorous.....and the coeds are incredible.

I never meant that the Bama nation was rude or classless. I have plenty of friends that are Bama fans. Some of them are pretty tough to be around win or lose, but some are 1st rate classy fans. I've been to more Bama games than Gator games because of where I live and most everyone on my mom's side of the family are Tide fans. Most of my Auburn friends are pretty cool too. That probably has more to do with me being a Gator than a Bamer.
The rammer jammer cheer just gets attention because so many do it and the words do rub a little. But hey, there were a lot boos coming from the Gators during the UK game. The press had a field day with it. Some fans booed when Leak came in after Tebow drove the team into the redzone. Some in the media tried to say it was racially motivated, some posters on the GSMB claim they wanted to see Tebow finish the drive. I was embarassed regardless. Spurrier said real Gators don't boo when he was here. But he wasn't talking about the refs.;)

Sounds more like what many of the PC-nancies around here would rather hear us cheer.

"Oh dear, we've hurt their feelings! Both of them!"
