Meyer is getting desperate, or more likely already is. I don't really see how Rainey is going to fix their problems though.

He was a kid who acted like a kid who had just had his heart broken. Even the girl said that she wouldn't have called the police if she had realized what they would charge him with. She just wanted him to be kept away from her until he had time to cool down. Remember, he didn't hurt anyone. He just made an idle threat.

Everyone deserves a second chance. I am glad that he is getting his. Now, let's see what he does with it.

if this was one of our guys he would be dismissed immediately not suspended for a game or two!!!
It's possible that we don't know the whole story. I'm sure quite a few fanbases were talking about Bama when Upshaw was not kicked off the team.

Second hand, second hand, but funny, so I'm gonna post it. A guy I work with has a daughter at UF, athlete, saw Rainey at some party and said he was walking around holding his crotch asking the girls if they wanted to ride the Rain Train. He's a changed man, I tell ya. :biggrin2:

And the UT fans that were robbed by players last year made an excuse for them too. Same goes for the UGA player that had a wreck this year.

Yea, he didn't hurt anyone. He was just outside her residence on his scooter and sent a text message that said it was time to die. No biggie... He had his heart broken? How many people on this board have had their heart broken and sent text messages like that?

You are, of course, free to believe whatever you wish about this young man. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt (especially since the girl does).

One should examine oneself for a very long time before thinking of condemning others. ~Moliere

In Alabama off "highway59"
I certainly don't know the particulars of this incident, but the girl that was backing up on what should be done about this fellow, she could have been recieving a fair amount of heat from locals to clam up or flat give cover for a reinstatement of this guy to the team. Some bad eggs in all fanbases. Some would have no problem causing her problems down road. Don't know if that was going down. I would hope not.

CUM needs to bring this kid back regardless of what he did. His top 5 recruiting class for 11 may be in jeapordy if they lose any more games. He is trying to save his arse. I hope this backfires on him. I highly doubt any other program besides Miami, Tenn or So. Cal that would reinstate him.

I'm torn on this one, I'm not condoning what Rainey did by any stretch. But he did something stupid over a female, lots of young guys have, as well as lots of young women over guys. To me the most troubling aspect is, if it's true, that he sent another threatening message after she said she was calling the police.

Regardless, Rainey didn't have any priors, he pled to a reduced charge and his record will be expunged if he stays out of trouble. I would be hard pressed to support kicking someone out of school and off of a sports team permanently in that situation. However, any repeat transgressions would result in severe and swift repercussions.

Rivals fans easily could, and did, make similar statements regarding our Upshaw incident. Similar aspersions about pressure from locals and preferential treatment from law enforcement could be raised. I believe Coach Saban has even said, sometimes kicking someone off of the team isn't the best answer. For some of these guys football is all they have and the only thing keeping them from REAL trouble. So I'm not going to judge. I expected Rainey would be back with the team after pleading to a lesser charge. This article just confirmed what I expected would happen.
