How many of you guys have a significant other whom you would consider more knowledgeable about the technical aspects of the game of football than most other, less interested women? I ask because when we were at the University, mine learned a lot about the game (for a female) simply by osmosis from me. Some of her girlfriends would give her strange looks when she would stand up and scream at our OL for not picking up a blitzing LB. She was familiar with things like stunting and pulling guards and many other minutae. She was amazing.

That's a good woman right there! :)

My wife knows the teams, the major players, and the basic rules of the game. She watches the big games with me, but usually shops while I watch the games with the boys.

The thing is, I prefer it that way. There is such thing as spending too much time together. Sports and poker are my chance to spend time with the boys, smoke a cigar, eat food that she would not approve of, etc...

I married a 5'8" blonde with legs to die for. It helped me get over the fact that she can't cook and doesn't know the first thing about football.

As a matter of fact, I don't even care that she doesn't understand football.

Almost forgot. I was introduced to her at a Bama game.

of wedded bliss...

Wy wife's extent of football knowledge is Alabama win=good Alabama loss=bad

She says I am in a better mood if Bama wins :)

My wife knows more about football than some guys I know! As a matter of fact, both of my sisters know more about football than some guys I know too! There was no way I was going to marry a women who A. didn't know football, B. didn't LOVE Alabama Football and C. didn't mind me watching not only every college game we didn't attend, but also every Pro game on Sundays! My wife is right there with me all the way!

You see boys...that's why I've been married for over 21 years! I married the right woman!

My wife went to undergrad at UA and liked it so much that she decided to stick around for grad school, which is a good thing because otherwise I might have missed out. At any rate, during her time at the Capstone, her football IQ came to exceed by a fairly wide margin that of the average female. She might not understand the intricacies of the inside receiver screen play, for example, but she recognizes holding when she sees it and understands the importance of going for two when down by five points late in the game. And she has agreed to let me train our kids to attack when they see the color orange. Lord, I do love that woman!

However, all of you single guys in the Bama Nation need to pay attention, because having a football-savvy girlfriend/fiancee/wife is not all fun and games. A woman who knows - and loves - the game is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, she will not harass you when you plant your lazy fundament on the couch for 12 hours on Saturdays during the fall. On the other, if she loves the Tide almost as much as you do, she will persist in traveling to games and accompanying you to buddies' houses to watch the games. Thus, you will have far fewer opportunities to act like a young, irresponsible college kid. On balance, I think the benefits outweigh the liabilities, but you definitely need to take these things into consideration . . .

Some of us girls no a little bit about it. My casual boyfriend at the time (now fiance) introduced me to Alabama football. Some of our "dates" were watching Bama games. I have been a fan ever since. He says I now know more than most of his guy friends.

Hey 1fitTobeTide, as a woman I'm a little offended by your "for a girl" comment. I am a girl and I know more about football and baseball then about 85% of all the guys I know. I cannot tell you how many people have told me I should be a baseball broadcaster their so amazed by how much about it I know. I've been going to football games since I was about 2, and I learned most of what I know from my mother, funny thing is after Bama games are over both me and my brother will call my parents and want to talk to mom, it really ticks my dad off. Thats not to say my dad doesn't know about football, he does, but my mom's first Alabama game was the 1948 Alabama/Auburn game which was the first time the 2 teams had played in about 25 years, so I guess you could say she's been going to games for a long time.

Carrying on the tradition

The women in my family all know their football. Now the younger ones are intereted and my niece just attended her first Bama away game at Oxford
in the end zone in the sun for what she termed Hell in a pasture. Alabama football is passion in our family and on Saturday those girls are not in the kitchen.....RTR

Y'all shouldn't be so surprised. There's alot of us who know the game and have a passion for it. Not just the boys! :)

I'm a girl and I am totally obsessed with Alabama Football!! During football season, I don't plan any activities on Saturdays cause I'm either at the game or at home watching the game. My brother is a Tide fan as well but I think my passion for them FAR outweighs his. ;)

That's funny and extremely true! My wife and I attend (with friends of ours) every Bama game...home and away! When we lived in Texas we would drive to a game or two each year in T-Town and on those years when Bama played Arkansas and LSU we'd travel there to see them too along with a game or two in T-Town. However, a great friend of mine's wife and he also lived in Texas and haven't missed a Bama game in many years even while living in Texas. They would drive the 10 hours every Friday and Sunday of Bama home games and also jump on planes to places such as Athens! They also attended most away games whenever possible! These women are NUTS about their Bama football, but if you want your "time with the boys" to be on Saturdays during the fall...forget it!

Speaking of...

One of Tidefans' own was recently featured on MTV for her knowledge of Alabama football.

I might add, she looked uber hot in doing so - and can out-cuss any man after a trip to Arkansas.

That is how she rolls when she rides out.

Inadell, your knowledge (and heritage) of the game sounds commendable, but also unusual for a woman, at least the ones I have known. The question refers more toward preference of interest instead of a slam on women. I apologize if it offended you.

When I first joined Tide Pride in 1993, my wife came along just for socializing after the game. She really didn't know much about Bama, much less football in general. Over the years, however, I have seen a change in her. Not only does she know all about Bama year in and year out, but she also has picked up a lot of knowledge about football. She is the one standing in Bryant Denney screaming at the refs, "They are holding Demeco you idiot!!!". I think I have created a monster. No seriously, it does make it more fun on Football Saturdays now. ;)

That is my wife as well. When she was attending The University she went to the games to see what the other girls wore. She will watch the big games but she absolutely will not watch any other college team much less watch an NFL game. There is usually some bargaining involved to allow me to watch the Monday Night Football in bed. My mother and maternal aunts on the other hand are extremely knowledgable about the game and watch all Bama games.
