I really thought DJ would be in at least the CFL or UFL or even Arena League. He was talented but I guess just doesn't have the intangibles to fulfill his potential.

Sad- don't know much about him personally but he was one of the few nice things on the field in 06-07.

Hope he turns it around like so many others have done.

DJ was an issue even during his time at Bama, so I can't say I'm surprised.

I don't understand why possession of Marijuana requires $30,000 bail when people bail out on less who are charged with violent crimes.

Alabama law on 1st Degree Possession:

(a) A person commits the crime of unlawful possession of marihuana in the first degree if, except as otherwise authorized:

(1) He possesses marihuana for other than personal use; or

(2) He possesses marihuana for his personal use only after having been previously convicted of unlawful possession of marihuana in the second degree or unlawful possession of marihuana for his personal use only.

(b) Unlawful possession of marihuana in the first degree is a Class C felony.

Since they were also in possession of a controlled substance, this might be an instance of the marijuana being more than just for personal use.

Still, the drug laws across the board are so misguided for the most part. It allows an easy way for politicians to say they are tough on crime by intentionally creating a lot of crime.

There was a "controlled substance" charge as well. Although that's usually prescription meds, it can be a variety of substances in varying amounts. We simply don't know what is involved at this point.

I pains me to see someone with the opportunites that DJ had get themselves into a situation like this. Who knows, maybe if he would have bought into what CNS was saying then he would be in the NFL and wouldn't have needed to sell drugs.

Could have called it back when he played here. Even this year I met a girl who smokes/drugs and hangs out with him all the time and I knew it was a matter of time before they/he got cought.

I understand the controlled substance charge. I just mean, I don't get why bail is so high for a non-violent crime. I agree with the poster who said the laws are misguided.

Another young man that's been headed down the long dark road of trouble for sometime. All you can do is hope this will be some type of wake up call to him. There were a few more from that time period that I unfortunately expect to see in the paper some day.

As always it's sad to see no matter what uniform they wore if they wore one at all. I hate to see anyone from any walk in life not live up to their potential.

An updated article states the police found a small bag of marijuana, 3 glass jars containing marijuana, a digital scale, boxes of sandwich bags, Adderall pills, and a 9 mm handgun. I don't think they were charged for the gun, but this is starting to look like more than a simple possession charge.

However, the guys that robbed my brother at gunpoint got $30,000 bails, but later had it reduced to $15,000 because "their families couldn't afford to pay."

D.J. Hall's name is Martinez DaVinci Hall? That's got to be the most random name for a Black person. I'm Hispanic and I've never heard of any Hispanic folks with the first name "Martinez."

Which would explain the class 1 possession charge. He probably too small of an amount on hand to get charged with something higher, but yeah... I got the impression this was probably going to be more than a simple case of recreational use.

We just have to hope and hope and hope that California does the right thing in Nov and legalizes and sets proper REGULATIONS in place for Cannabis. Its ridiculous.

Im a activist, fight for change in for laws everyday to give a sense of how I feel. That being said, when I see this "digital scales, boxes of sandwich bags," or this "Adderall pills" or this "Kassnar Imports 9 millimeter handgun" well, they lose me and I cant take up for them anymore. I will continue to fight against the unjust "Drug War" but I cant fight for those actions.

Yes the stupid, unjust, and very expensive Drug War enabled this, but still, come on DJ that is ridiculous!

Just so yall know, another person is getting arrested right now as you read this for Cannabis!

Good luck to these 2 young men.

You think he had that 9mm so he could plink some cans later on?

Everything they got screams dealer, not casual user.
