I agree, Wisconsin should have granted the transfer. It wasn’t about playing, it was a family medical hardship. Fickell should have done the right thing and let the kid go home. JMO.I don't feel like Wisconsin has a lot to gain here.
This sport is a mess though

Assuming that's true, Wisky shoulda helped the kid out.
They say that they have evidence of tampering. I hope that this is true. But will the NCAA do anything about it in time for it to matter (or at all)? I doubt it.
And they need to ban them from allowing that player on the field.
I think @BamaNation brings up a valid point. There is still much we don’t know with this story. I’d like to know when Wisconsin first suspected “tampering” and when did the player withdraw from school? And when did the player’s father suffer the severe health issue?
My gut reading between the lines? Someone contacted the player from Miami, offering a sweeter agreement. Based on the agreement with Wisconsin, he was told it was binding for two years and his transfer portal application would be denied. His attorney told him to withdraw school stating “hardship” with his father’s illness. Denying a hardship transfer by Wisconsin would be terrible optics for the university and they will cave.
I could be wrong but this is a very smelly kettle of fish.

This is way worse than the NBA. They at least have a CBA, draft, and contracts that are enforceable. College football is absolute chaos.

Seems like UW could take him to court to enforce the contract he signed as part of the revenue share deal, recover the money, and potentially damages. If they had a revenue share deal that didn’t have those provisions in it then they need to get better lawyers.
Even if he hasn’t received a dime I sue for enforcement of the contract, assuming it has clauses that allow for that. Basically litigate anything you can to enforce whatever he signed. Force the issue, because if you don’t you can be sure his agent/lawyer is going to press for payment even though he is no longer playing for UW.
At some particular point these players need to learn this is a two way street.
