Did anyone catch this? I'd like to know what they said. I can't imagine it'd be any different as to what the foxsports website said.

Anyone?

It was pretty good. It painted a positive picture of the team and really talked up our defense. They mentioned the great talent we have replacing last year's starters and went over the intangibles like leadership. They interviewed Hurt from the T-News as an Alabama football expert. There was nothing on the show that most of us don't already know. Of course almost every segment was ended with "...if Brodie stays healthy."

I guess I just liked it because it briefly satisfied my hunger for Alabama football. Although I think it just added fuel to the fire.

RTR!

Verticle... they even have DirecTV in New Hampshire so that's no

Somebody buy a slingbox so I can watch this stuff. Man, this is when it sucks living in New Hampshire.
excuse! If you get DirecTV, you can then spend the $12 bucks and get the entire sports package, which gives you EVERY SINGLE FOX SPORTS STATION! I lived in Texas for 11 years and had it the entire time because I wanted to see Bama stuff! I now live back in Hoover and still have it because I love DirecTV.

Of course, if it's a monetary issue, than I completely understand that! Even though DirecTV claims to be inexpensive, it's not that cheap.

I had DirectTV for a year. It's not an option up here in the Northeast. We always lost the signal anytime it snowed, and that happens a lot, especially at the end of football season.

I watched it and it was pretty good with only a few inaccuracies.

They started out with the line "The Pride of Alabama football has began to re-emerge under Mike Shula. Now in his third season some say it is time for the Tide to turn."

They had some good Bama footage with a fair accessment of last years woes and presented a positive Bama outlook for the upcoming season. Of course I think the show could have been a little better from my perspective but I follow the Tide almost everyday.

They said that no less than three redshirt freshman are projected to be starters on the offensive line. They have Cody Davis penciled in as the starter at left tackle, Antoine Caldwell starting at center, and B.J. Stabler starting at guard. those are all certainly possibilities but not the way the most recent depth chart reads. I also have not heard that specific info or read it in any recent newspaper articles. Especially Caldwell starting at center. He may play some center but if he starts it will most likely be because of an injury to J B Closner.

I definitely could have done without the two Fulmer full frontal face shots with his white Tennessee cap with the pumpkin orange T center screen with Coach Shula in profile.

They had a lot of footage from the SEC Media Days of Coach Shula, Brodie Croyle and Roman Harper. Coach Shula talked about the extremely high expectations for Bama this year from the fans and the Bama team. Brodie talked about the team goal of winning the SEC championship this year. Roman talked about the high expectations for the defense this year and that they are working to get better and hope to start out well in the first game against MTSU. If you watched the SEC Media Day video interviews on the Bama Team News Board then you already had that info.

Kickoff 2005 - Day Three: COACH MIKE SHULA Quotes

They talked about Bama having a full class of true freshman coming in this year for the first time in three years and that Bama only has 77 players on scholarship out of a total of 85 allowed. They talked about Bama's schedule with 4 of the first 5 games being at home, and that Florida, LSU, and Tennessee are at home and that Auburn is on the road. They broke down the offense saying that success depends of Brodie staying healthy and the defense mentioning last years performance and that Demeco Ryans is the key of the defense along with the defensive backs.

They had a video clip of Roy Upchurch from last season in high school running the ball. They talked about his Christmas charity work he does in honor of his Grandmother that recently passed away. Besides Upchurch they said that Brandon Fanney and Chris Keys are the top three incoming freshman.

When they mentioned the Bama players on the SEC Coaches Pre-Season All-SEC Football they mistakenly left off Roman Harper even though he was first team.

Tony Barnhardt talked about his take on Bama and gave his less than opitimistic prediction that he doesn't think Alabama has the depth to win 8 or 9 games this season because of the NCAA sanctions. He said if Bama makes it to a bowl that it should be considered a good season.

They said that Coach Shula deserves credit for what he has done the first two season but he is on the hot seat. Then they had a very short clip that appeared to be an excerpt from an interview with Cecil Hurt. He said "[Coach Shula] has done a job in terms of holding things together that I don't think people understand, because I don't think a lot of people understand just how devastating the NCAA sanctions were and to come in without the benefit of spring training his first year. I do think that after two years fans are past the point of wanting a caretaker and they are wanting someone that can win some big games. So this is a critical year for him."

The only part that annoyed me was Tony BARNhart saying that he couldn't see us winning 8-9 games. His opinion was that we should just be happy getting another lower-tier bowl. I despise that clown and have for years.

I had a friend that was a Bama fan and worked on the Alaska pipeline. He subscribed to DirectTV to watch Bama and Texas games.

He did an internet search and found a 36" dish with a heater and replaced the 18" dish. Said reception was great.

I saw it, which was great for me being out of state and having this channel. I enjoyed seeing clips that I don't get to see daily. As far as the preview went, it was extremely corny at times, but did get the point across that Bama has a good chance at 'succeeding' this year barring injury. I did like them using the Bear Bryant quote at the end.

I agree with you about the extremely corny part. I started to put that in my recap. The two co-hosts left a lot to be desired. They seemed more Entertainment Tonight than Sports Center to me. lol

Thanks for the update Crimson Surfer. Those of us who live out of state need people like you to help feed our hunger.
Actually I live out of state. ;) I am just very determined to keep up with Bama. I was born and raised in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa and miss Alabama badly even though I now call Henderson, Nevada home.

UNLV football is just not the same as Alabama football. lol Even though I am looking for some big improvement since John Robinson retired. I think the new coach ex-Utah offensive coordinator Mike Sanford will improve the team a lot. UNLV just signed transfer QB Rocky Hinds from USC. He will sit out this year and most likely be the starter in 2006.

Hated the hosts...

Of the show and the "vanilla reviews." Pretty much, it was a recap of the SEC coaches meeting and CMS/BC/RH comments. The only new info that was said was Tony Barnhart's comments. Actually, while some seem to have considered it a "low blow" to say that we couldn't win 8-9 games this season, I'm glad he (and other sportwriters) is allowing us room for overachievement. Whenever I hear about the guaranteed 8-9 win season for us this year, I think about 2000 and the extreme expectations (with fans and writers) for our team... down the drain after one half of football at UCLA. Keep setting low expectations in the media... will love to surprise them every single year.

My problem with TBs comments is that he seemed to say it was not even possible to get past 7 wins. But the thing that irks me the most is the "hot seat" discussions. Crane I believe said something along the lines that the sanctions were over and so were the excuses. He can tell me that in 3 years when this class is seniors and we've been able to have 4 years of bowl practice, etc, etc. I'm just tired of the ignorance that exists relative to the impact the sanctions have had and will continue to have on the program.

Overall I guess I feel like some of the others here that have heard/seen everything that was said in other outlets, wasn't enlightening but nice to see some footage again. I'd rather have seen a condensed replay of a game from last year though . . .
