That's fantastic! Good for Freddie!

Talk about the fast track to the NFL...he went from North Texas to MSU to the Dallas Cowboys! That's moving up pretty quick!

Where did you hear that?

Not that it really matters...Pharr declared in what...June?

Freddie

in college i used to rag Freddie as much as anyone -- i rooted for anyone but him to QB. i think i thought i could do a better job.

i happen to be good friends with one of Freddie's buddies at Bama, who also played ball at Bama. one weekend, both of them were in town for a wedding and i got to sit around and drink a few beers with Freddie.

after that night, i talked to my friend and he told me stories about freddie that i had never heard -- freddie kitchens has not been as blessed as most of us in his life, and i hope he succeeds whereever he goes/ ends up, be it Bama, auburn, or even tennessee.

I'm not "picking on you" when I say this...but that just doesn't pass the logic test with me. I could be wrong, and that's why I ask where did you hear that.

A couple of things to note about Pharr. 1) he declared at our Sr. camp last summer. 2) He never camped at MSU. I can't see the opportunity for Freddie to tell him that unless Freddie decided to take an in home visit with Pharr when he was already commited and had declared he had no interest in MSU.

You are correct...

Ti.

No worries TerryP. FK might be a great person, but anyone that is a recruiter and does not approach a kid and talk about his school ONLY, in my opinion is sliging dirt.

In my business, I have some really tough compitetion. And they trash us every day to get our customers. But, when I talk to a customer or potential customer, I talk about our product only. But, if they ask, I say they have a good product, but let me tell you what you get with us.

My point is, how does FK know anything about what CMS is going to do.

I'm sure he doesn't, but it may have been Freddie's honest belief that UA would want to use a gray shirt approach with Pharr. Why Freddie would have thought that after seeing our OL play last year is beyond me, but he's entitled to his opinion. I'm sure (or at least I hope) that recruits are smart enough to realize that when a coach tells them what an opposing coach will do that it is all speculation. I don't think it's negative recruiting to tell a recruit that you think that recruit might be buried on a depth chart at another school or that another school might not have enough available scholarships to bring them in immediately. Several posters on this board and other Alabama fans were up in arms because Ralph Friedgen told a recruit that we were still on probation. However, it was true, we were still on probation, it was just that the bowl restrictions and scholarship restrictions had ended. I don't think that's negative recruiting either; it was simply giving the recruit facts.

I didn't know that...read it, but it had slipped my ever failing memory.

It's well known the recruiting tactics we've seen out of Starkville the last few years. I wonder how much of an influence some of the other coaches had on what Freddie told Taylor...bottom line there is a lot of anger and hatred towards Alabama on that campus. That's the main reason I was happy to read that Freddie had moved on to a better position. (I could care less about a few other ones...but that's a different thread in itself.)

An interesting point is brought up here and Greg McElroy comes to mind. When he was taking his official visit at the Capstone one of the comments he made while reflecting on his time in Tuscaloosa was the staff hadn't talked to him about Tx. Tech, just what he could expect from his time at Alabama.

We find a lot of rivals that poke fun at tradition. It's that tradition that allows our staff to talk positively about what a recruit can expect and the lack of a tradition which undoubtably leads a lot of rivals to not talk about what they can offer.

i always thought freddie was under-appreciated during his playing days. had there been more talent around him offensively, i think he'd be remembered far differently by most people. what he lacked in skills he made up for with a tough-as-nails attitude.

i've said it before, but i think he was really a player out of time. he would have fit better back in the days of the art donovan types who could party all night and play all day. he was just born 40 years too late.

regardless, i'm happy for him and remember him fondly.

If Kitchens told Taylor Pharr that he would be grey shirted he was acting on orders from his HC to trash the UA like he does. At least he didn't bring a phony letter from the NCAA like fulmer or drag out depth charts with players on it that had graduated a couple of years before like tt. All the other SEC schools trash the UA. They know when we get back their runs are over.

I remember Freddie being so big

the O linemen would challenge him to sprints after practice. I also remember him being so big that often DBs would bounce off of him on safety or corner blitzes, kind of a little bit smaller version of Jarrod Lorenzen from Kentucky.

The game I remember best was his senior year vs Auburn. He played the game of his life but the Tide came up short that game, most notably the botched screen pass to Scissum will always be remembered as the turning point of the game. He had a cannon for an arm but had a tendency to try to thread the ball between defenders too much.

Terry,
I just read the same quote from Taylor Pharr on a Tider Inisder interview.
Yes, I just read it too. Maybe he is where he needs to be. I am just glad he is no longer recruiting High School kids. Maybe he has had a hard life, but that is no reason to sling mud. Sorry Freddie, go to the back of the line!

One thing a lot of people seem to have forgotten about Freddy is the terrible injury to his throwing arm, early on, he sustained during a Baseball game. At the time, it was considered potentially career ending. If I'm not mistaken, the head BB coach was canned because of this. I think he either left Freddy in a game after FK complained of pain, or something of that nature (don't roast me if this isn't true, as I'm going from memory........a not too good a one, at that).

ABSOLUTELY!

I've read the rumor about Taylor Pharr all over the internet as well. I would believe that Croom was dictating this one. Freddie has never really seemed bitter about the bashing he took while the QB here. It seems though Croom takes everything out when MSU and Alabama do battle over a recruit. I think he is still bitter about Jimmy Johns.
