FSU changing turf before game ?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Yes. It has been planned for some time. From what I read it is a new "lay and play" turf that is a thicker natural grass, ready for play immediately after installation, and has been used in other major venues.
Thank you .Seems like a last minute decision. They just started removing the old turf yesterday.

It's not like Florida State football fans need anything else to feel anxious about less than two weeks before the Seminoles' season opener against Alabama.

Yet, news Sunday evening, Aug. 18, that FSU planned to tear up the turf at Doak Campbell Stadium starting Aug. 18 and install a new playing surface caused a stir.

Not to panic, according to FSU.

The "lay and play" surface has been used in recent Super Bowls, along in other stadiums like Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. It is also scheduled to be used for some playing surfaces in the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Dear FSU ... yall gonna be playing soccer. That's fine and probably appropriate. However, we will be playing grown man football.

Not sure how good their OL is but Roydell Williams is a tough experience back and we have two guys who have barely seen the field. That doesn't mean much until feet hit the turf but I hope the field doesn't become States 13th man.

I’m not sure I remember RW as a “tough” back. I remember us trying to use him in that capacity, and routinely getting stuffed at the line.

Just go back to the classic astro turf that was in Legion Field:

2 foot thick slab of concrete
Covered with 1/8 inch of padding
Topped off with a thin carpet that kind of looked like grass

That playing field was hard and slick!
