Yes, but right or wrong you can’t make that call without a video safety blanket.Replay should never enter an on-field official's mind.
He allowed himself to be influenced by the Faith dugout. He originally called the play correctly.Rule #1 of officiating: Call what you see and not what you think you see. Especially if Replay is unavailable to correct it.
People make that call without replay every day. Again, replay should never enter an official's mind. Period. You call what you see and that's it.Yes, but right or wrong you can’t make that call without a video safety blanket.
Yes, but you still cant make a call like that without replay. The guy had no clear view to say whether the runner left before the ball hit the glove. "Calling it like you see it" instead of "Calling what you Actually see" is the problem here. Doing the former is a sign of an arrogant official, and the latter is a sign of a good official. I would rather an official miss something because he couldnt see it than an official totally blowing a call because he believes he has a sixth sense and is the greatest official in the sport.People make that call without replay every day. You HAVE to make a call. Right, wrong, or indifferent, he can't call a do over because he doesn't have the correct angle/view. Not saying he made the correct call, but one had to be made.Yes, but you still cant make a call like that without replay. You can’t make THAT call. He made it to be famous and was not acting in good interest of the game. It’s not about making a call, it’s about making a defendable call. Which he doesn’t have. This isn’t a subjective call like balls or strikes, or something split second like “did he beat out a throw”. This is literally “the game is over, but let’s see if the umpire will give us another shot” call. Sure if it is clear call it, but if it’s too close then you are seriously being the queen of the tool bag if you are going to call it.You HAVE to make a call. I did a search but couldn't find anything. Sounds a lot like the refs in Albertville and Southside. Please Google the 1997 high school playoff game between Parrish and Westbrook Christian. I'm from Parrish originally and was at that game. Brodie Croyle was the qb for WC and in the first half couldn't do anything offensively. Come second half it was like a whole different team and while WC was getting away with holds and offensive PI's, Parrish would be called the opposite. On a couple occasions Parrish's rbs would break a run only to get called back due to holding or his "knee was down". After the game some fans attacked the refs as they were going to the locker room.
Well most Auburn loses are less luck and less shenanigans and more of our own doing than what most Alabama fans are willing to admit. 2019, 1982, and 1993 are probably the biggest exceptions to that. Of all the teams that we are screwed over against I would say LSU, Ole Miss, and Arkansas are far worse.Steelers have benefitted multiple times from bogus or no calls( one in SB against Cowboys) and Is everybody nuts? No mention of Auburn?

One of the most sleazy, revolting, disgusting, devious exhibitions of nonsense in athletics at any level anywhere in all of human history. With the Olympics coming up, I just want to bring up the screw job of the 72 USA basketball team.
Having spoken with fans/players of Hartselle s two biggest rivals (Cullman and Decatur). they all felt it was karma but that s what rivals gets youYou can’t make THAT call. Someone running early at 3rd is very unlikely to begin with because you have a 3rd base coach watching the outfield. So the odds are already heavily leaning towards that the runner is running on time, but no this donkey has some sixth sense telling him that the guy left early even though he is IN NO POSITION to see his foot to begin with.
This umpire should be Banned by the AHSAA or his indefinite suspension to carry over for a few years.
If I read it correctly, the thing that makes it look really bad is that the head referee of that game- Renato Righetto - refused to sign the official scorecard after the game. Which to me means that game is not official regardless of who sign for Righetto. One of the most sleazy, revolting, disgusting, devious exhibitions of nonsense in athletics at any level anywhere in all of human history.
The only thing that comforts me about the Roy Jones, Jr screw job is what happened in Salt Lake City in 2002. When Apollo Ohno controversially won the 1500m race when Kim Dong-Sung was DQ for an trying to impede Ohno. South Koreans were madder than a stirred up bee's nest. SK wanted Ohno stripped of the gold and the medal given to their guy. I was laughing so hard at the anger South Korea because they---at the time---now knew of the anger Americans had at the decision in the Jones, Jr/Si-Hun gold medal match. South Korea screwed over Roy Jones, Jr and they then wanted Ohno to give the Gold Medal to Kim Dong-Sung? To hades with that stuff. South Korea deserved to be screwed in 2002 for what they did in 1988.That and the Roy Jones Jr boxing match of 1988 were next-level unbelievable.
I was watching that game listening to the Braves announcers. One of them- Not sure if it was Sutton or Earnie, said “Someone needs to remind him the strike zone is the width of the plate not the width of his butt”. It was after this pitch. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/clip0380.gif.opt_.gif8) 1997 NLCS (Most Particularly Game 5)
I didn't cheer when Eric Gregg died, but I'll admit I didn't exactly feel the appropriate kind of empathy (at first), either. Gregg put on the absolute worst display of umpiring behind home plate I've EVER seen in my 40-plus years of watching baseball. It felt like Gregg had a particular hatred for the Braves that day. I'm sure he didn't, I'm sure it was just a bad outcome, but the average 20-something Tidefans poster who could throw a ball from the mound to the plate could have struck out 15 Braves that day with that strike zone.
