I thought it was longer than it should have been. He had some pretty good years there for a while, but the last two or three have been ugly.
As others have mentioned, he was a good DC and could get that job at a number of schools, if he wants to; maybe he wants to be a head coach somewhere else. Maybe he’s ready to retire.
He had a good run.

I don't get it.

All these teams getting rid of their coaches in the middle of the season AND then those same coaches not finishing out the season they started. I saw Texas Tech did the same thing. I guess in Patterson's case he made the decision himself, but that just doesn't seem right to me. I understand not ending the way you wanted it to, but it still says something when you finish something you started. I also understand not holding onto a coach because of recruiting so no need to point that out.

Maybe it's just me and I'm holding on to the days when you didn't just up and quit when you committed to it. I know the case may be made for coaches who leave by saying the administration quit on them so turn about is fair play, but that's not always right. I guess it's just the times we live in right now. As someone said earlier, what have you done for me lately. Just my opinion, of course.

I hate it for Patterson because TCU is not always the easiest place to win, but he did it.

He will land somewhere if he wants to continue coaching. He built TCU into a Power 5 quality program.

Would he be a good replacement for Golding?
He’s a 4-2-5 guy so I don’t think it’d be a good fit. Def a take as an analyst but I imagine he’ll take a year off or be a fox cfb analyst and then take a smaller school like a cinci if their coach leaves

20 years is a good run at any FBS school, and Patterson had plenty of opportunity to take higher profile jobs and stayed loyal to TCU. His career at TCU probably didn't end how he'd like, but I'd check the box "Job Well Done" on his tenure there.
For the most part, I would agree. But if Saban ever initiated a "Crybaby Pre-hab Internship," Patterson's the man.
