Breaking out of Columbia right now.

Sources tell Dave Matter of the St. Louis Dispatch that this is health related, nothing to do with recent events in Columibia.

Re: Gary Pinkel Announcing His Retirement

While I obviously hope he gets better NOW I know that this position of his was nothing more than 'maybe they'll talk good about me when I'm gone."

Wow. What a bad loss for Missouri, the SEC and college football. Pinkel was one of the good guys. Here is hoping for a healthy recovery. Prayers.

Praying for his recovery. Never like to hear information like this about anyone. Admire him for trying to coach this year. I cannot imagine the stresses of fighting cancer and being the head coach of a SEC program at the same time. Hope the cancer goes into remission soon.

Speaking as someone involved in the treatment of cancer, having had received chemotherapy in June, getting a PET/CT scan 4 months later, and having the need to receive additional treatment, what's happening is not good. I hope he doesn't end up like Flip Saunders. Lymphoma is a treatable, but sometimes a really tough disease.

I hope he has some quality time with his family after his retirement..There's things in life far more important than college football & family is one of those things as he recovers from cancer..

I'm sure the stress of the BS going on at that campus helped speed his decision. I wish him well in his treatment.

If you read his statement, you'll see he says he made the decision on October 27.

This is heartbreaking for all who know Pinkel. He has always been described as one of the good guys. I pray he has been and will be aggressive with this. Just another sad Friday for college football. As many crazy plays as there have been this season there have been just as many sad stories and situations. Prayers and best wishes from the Alabama family.

Re: Gary Pinkel Announcing His Retirement

He was a teammate of Nick Saban under Don James. He coached for James at Washington until taking Saban's place at Toledo.

Sad to hear. Hopefully he'll be able to recover better without the stress of coaching and dealing with the nonsense of this week.

I've always liked CGP and I will pray he can beat this cancer.
Who could have guessed two SEC jobs would be open at the end of this season!
