If Bush's policies protected these companies, THEN HOW DID THEY GET CONVICTED? Are you another one of these that finds a way to blame Bush for everything? I am definitely not a fan of his but it was under his Presidency that they were brought to justice. Not under Clinto when they were committing the illegal acts also. And no, I don't blame it on Clinton either.
THEY GOT CONVICTED BECAUSE THEY GOT CAUGHT!!!!!!

They only got the attention of the US Attorney's office after stockholders started losing money once their accounting methods were exposed. Everyone KNEW that there was no way Healthsouth could be that profitable in a city run by UAB Hospital. Bush himself lost money on Enron once their stock tanked.

I am not one that finds a way to blame Bush for everything, but he simply did not care that the corporations and investment firms WERE DRIVING THE US ECONOMY INTO THE GROUND!!! There are several options he could have taken to at least try and curb the rampant greed going on. He could have ordered the Justice Dept and FBI to investigate companies that had rumors of unethical business practices. He could have threatened to introduce bills into Congress increasing the taxes on big companies (e.g. big oil and the wall street investment firms).

Look, the bottom line is he did not care that these companies were raping the American public to satisfy their own greed. I for one don't think that gas will ever shoot that high that quickly again with a Democrat controlled Congress and White House. It will get high again I'm sure, but not as quickly as it did last summer in the absence of an actual energy crisis. Corporate America knows an Obama Administration can cause real problems for them.

Then you don't believe them when they say that they would like to see European level fuel prices. Is there anything else we shouldn't believe them on?

I will tell you what is funny with the Republican defenders and the Democrat defenders. When Clinton was nearing the end of his term, gas prices had reached all time highs. The Repubs were blaming Clinton for it. Soon after Bush was sworn in gas prices dropped. The Repubs were crowing about how Bush had saved us with his influence with the OPEC countries and the oil companies. The Dems were argueing that he had no affect on the prices and he deserved no credit just as Clinton should not have been blamed for the high gas prices. Now fast forward to this past August. The Dems were accusing Bush for the high prices and that he had the power to lower the gas prices. The Repubs were yelling back that he has no influence and that it is ridiculous to blame him. If you do a search on this site to around the November of 1999 you can find all the post blaming Clinton for high prices and also find post praising Bush for bringing down the gas prices.
Now, think of this, should Clinton be blamed then for the rise in gas? Should we praise Bush for the drop in price after he was elected? Should Bush be given credit for the lower prices now? They are lower now then when he took office. Don't be hypocritical.
My opinion, neither has enough influence to be praised for lower prices nor did either have the influence for the higher prices.

Hey, I never once defended ole slick willy. Both him and his wife are scumbags and I personally was glad when he finally left office. I wasn't all that excited for Bush, but at least with him you knew he wouldn't have sex in the oral, err excuse me, Oval office.
