I'm not eve a Tech fan and I was so disgusted with the officiating an non-calls on "targeting" and "holding" by the UGA OL. Horrible! I sort of agree with DK on it!

That DPI call on the 4th down at the end should have never been a DPI. That one call changed the whole game.

Not calling targeting on the King fumble....when the crown of his helmet hit King in the facemask....changed the game.

Refs pulled UGA up numerous times.

Touchdown was classic offensive pass interference as well.

Refs are poor both ways i think....they did give GT a DPI and the ball on the 1 with a chance to win it...so unless they were 100% confident UGA was going to stop them then they were risking their "paychecks"lol....at some point we have to get better ref crews all over CFB. Maybe it full-time officials... although the NFL ones don't seem to be much better, either!

Officiating at all levels, across all sports, is in serious decline. High school officiating in Alabama is atrocious.

Didn’t see a single play. Was it that bad?
Between phantom PI calls giving UGA first and goal following a failed third down conversion to incredibly blatant holds that weren't called, etc. - yes, it was that bad.

If you told me the refs were paid to make sure UGA won I'd not doubt it for a millisecond.

Not even reviewing the fumble for targeting was atrocious, which is yet another reason why this rule is so stupid. The refs, booth, everyone involved is still clueless about how to enforce this rule. It needs to be tossed out if everyone can’t get on the same page. No flag, no booth review and one of the most clear targeting hits I’ve seen in years. He had the first down and the game would have been all but over that that point. Refs pulled one out for UGA.

What we learned from the Tech/dawgs game

- it’s not holding if you horse collar tackle the defender running by you
- it’s not targeting as long as you just use the crown of your helmet into the ball carriers facemask
- its a Georgia first down as long as they are within a yard of the line to gain
- its pass interference in the end zone on fourth down if the defender makes a play on the ball, even if the ball may be tipped if you wear Yellow and Blue.
- if it’s a close call, Possession arrow always favors Georgia

BTW, those who said it wasn’t targeting, from the National Director of officiating, Steve Shaw-

“You’ve got to go down, break down, you’ve got to do that, but what we want is you to keep your eyes up and see what you’re hitting,” Shaw said. “In that situation, that player you are hitting is not defenseless, so the only way you could get called for targeting is with the crown (of the helmet).
“To do that, you would have to lower your head and make contact. The crown is the button (atop) the helmet and the 6-inch radius around it.
“The dangerous position is when you lower your head … and there’s a line with the spine angle … that’s not what we want. As soon as you drop your head, you’re no longer reacting to the play, you’re just a missile at that point.”

Lordy. My daughter played 4A girls basketball in North Alabama last year and it was laughably bad. We played one team there the refs fouled our best player out before the half. They called a foul and the one ref called her number, looked around, and pointed at her to get out of the game. She was across the court and not even near another player or the ball!

Our coach went ballistic and they started arguing, the ref starting saying he was going give our coach a T when the opposing team's coach actually walked over and TOLD THE REF HE HAD THE WRONG PLAYER. Yep... the ref then argued with the opposing teams coach before the other refs came over, had a huddle, and decided to call the foul on another player. Then that ref fouled our best player out when she was knocked down and fouled a couple of possessions later.

We had the whole thing on video and what the ref was saying, it was sent to AHSAA and they never responded. I mean, we weren't going to win the game anyway because the other team was much better, but it was hilariously awful.
