Cross-contamination from human error the first time is also a possibility.Nothing is said about their symptoms, or lack of, the first time around (unless I missed it). So, is this false positives at the beginning, false negatives in the middle, or is it possible that asymptomatic cases can "go dark" and reemerge with active symptoms - or is this truly a second infection so soon after the first?
Possible reinfection asideFor the 'herd immunity' crowd...
CORONAVIRUS Sailors on sidelined USS Theodore Roosevelt get virus for second time
WRT the bolded language, I think you're right. He would have hamstrung any organization in place to help him deal with the crisis with anything other than initial denial and then wildly vacillating positions, penduluming back to denial. His remarks day before yesterday say it all - "no testing = no cases." IOW, that's with his big fat ass sticking up towards the sky and his bleached blond head stuck firmly in the mud. If it's not the stupidest thing I've ever heard a hippo potus say, it's close. As I posted on my Facebook page - "We are so screwed!"To be honest - I don't know yet if the "hollowing out" is going to hurt us wrt this virus. I don't think anyone does at this point.
The article was being speculative in the negative sense.
Then you have the titles of each article:
*Vanity Fair:
Trump Has Already Hamstrung The U.S.’s Coronavirus Response
**Politico:
White House to ask Congress for emergency coronavirus funding
*The one you linked is an editorial - and as such I offered a counterpoint.
**The one I linked was more in line with reporting the news.
I understand there are those in the media whose job it is to fan the flames.
Perhaps fearmongering is too strong of a term to use - but when you're dealing with a deadly virus like this - perhaps not.

We'll have to see what happens.......

What does this really mean? That you're worried about all of it or none of it?
How refreshing. I think it was carried internationally which would be a good reminder to our allies we are not completely nuts.
i'm looking forward to the appearance of the trolls.I’m so looking forward to the meltdown.
But remember - he'd make a great general, he likes soldiers who don't get captured, people with PTSD are "weak."I agree with Chukker, that was refreshing and so far from what we hear from Trump's accusations, finger pointing and blaming everyone but himself. Trump is a coward.
Thing with this guy is you don't have to wait but minutes.I’m so looking forward to the meltdown.
For me all of it is concerning. So yes....all.....What does this really mean? That you're worried about all of it or none of it?
You actually recover from the flu. It's becoming apparent that, though may survive this virus, you have a good chance, particularly if older, of being maimed for life, with lung damage and possible brain damage and on dialysis...Believing Dr. Fauci and experts on COVID-19 a 'liberal,' anti-Trump conspiracy
"Call me one of the "sheeple," but I'd still rather listen to the guy who spent his whole life studying infectious diseases, and who probably showed some level of competence to become the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases under Republican and Democratic administrations.
"But, hey, perhaps that Facebook friend, who still insists COVID-19 is no worse than the flu (it is three times deadlier than the flu in Florida, according to reporting by the USA TODAY Network), knows something I don't. Or those who question whether the virus' death toll is artificially high, even though evidence suggests deaths might be under counted."
I noticed that Trump called Fauci's advice "unacceptable." I remember when my Air Force boss (a lawyer like me) said that my legal advice wasn't wrong, but it was "inconvenient." I learned that what today's group of "leaders" want from experts isn't your true opinion, but cover, so you can take the blame when things go wrong.
No it's about Trump's refusal to make the $1million charitable donation after being confronted with Obama's birth certificate. How refreshing. I think it was carried internationally which would be a good reminder to our allies we are not completely nuts.
When Trump starts up about Obamagate, a reporter should ask him if Obamagate revolves around Trump’s confusion about whether Obama was born in the United States or Africa.
