What is everyone's opinion? Is it that CMS is a good recruiter (i know it's hard to tell this early so play along) or do the new facilities, and immediate playing time at a big time Univ. like AL. get these kids? Regardless, the barn better watch out. They have had a huge upperhand the last few years and what have they done with it? Nothing!! Not going anywhere for a while barn? Try a Snicker Bar!!!!

I think its a little to do with both of those. Obviously playing time is playing a key role in it, but also Auburns little fiasco with Petrino is being a huge disadvantage for them. Hopefully since Shula has the ball rolling it will pick up momentum and allow us to dominate in-state again like we used to.

I think you would all be kidding ourselves if we thought that it was one thing out of those three. The most attractive asset would have to be Playing Time. I recently had a long conversation with Scott Hunter. Yes, I know he is old and out of the loop, but he did make one point I won't forget. He told me that all HS kids care about is getting to the NFL. He went on to say, they could care less about the Bear and more about the quickest way to the pro's. A very cynical observation, but unfortunately probably true. Certainly, the facilities upgrade from the 19th Century to the 21st Century can't hurt along with CMS's laid back personality, good looks and charm should probably go over pretty well with Mommas and Daddy's.

Your question has been answered..but I want to point out one thing. The coaches we have on the road recruiting...a lot of credit goes to them. Coach Cheese has been a hell of an addition...Coach Randolph has been doing a great job...and Coach Woods has so many connections in and around the SEC it's unreal.

I would answer your question this way.

Selling your facilities and playing time IS good recruiting. For every coach saying "we have immediate playing time", there is an opposing coach saying "don't go there, they are thin on talent and will lose a lot of games". The key is having a guy who can turn any situation into a positive for the prospective player. Of course, great facilities make that job a lot easier.

Check out this quote from Trent Davidson, a TE recruit this season when asked about meeting Coach Shula.

I got a good chance to meet him last summer at the Alabama camp. He threw one-on-one with me at the camp. That was the first time I met him. Then he came to my home with Coach Connelly. The thing I like about Coach Shula is that he's so laid back. We talked about three hours when he came to my home. Most of that time we just talked about life. But when the subject of football came up you could see a change in him. He had more fire in his eyes. I really like him. I feel relaxed around him. He really seems to care about his players. I think a lot of the other prospects feel the same way about him.
