It's no surprise. The same forces tear both and the ACL is more vulnerable and tears first. Been there, done that and wish I hadn't...

Lets hope Fowler doesn't do the surgery and ruin another athlete's college career.

Displaced blame...Pro had almost no chance with that injury. Unless you stayed in a Holiday Inn last night give Fowler some love. He too loves the Tide!

Indeed. If anyone saw the replay of the break (especially the slow-mo version) even someone without an advanced degree in physiology could tell his football career ended that afternoon. Tragic, but the surgery/surgeon is not to fault - in this instance.

Make no mistake - Fowler is no Andrews, but he is a very good surgeon.

Pro has a Theisman-like break- and there's not much chance for ANYONE to come back from that unless God himself intervenes. This opinion comes from years of watching the game and years in the medical field.

Tide freshman running back has injured ACL

Freshman running back Demetrius Goode injured his ACL, Saban said Sunday morning at a press conference. On Saturday, Saban said the initial examination looked as if the injury was with the MCL, but the MRI confirmed that it was Goode’s ACL.

“Demetrius Goode does have an ACL injury,” Saban said. “These types of injuries are anywhere from five to seven to nine months, depending on how quickly you can start rehabbing after the surgery. It’s not something, typically, that can’t be overcome.”

Saban said the surgery was scheduled for Tuesday.

Criticism of Fowler is justified. Very much so. And it has nothing to do with the severity of Pro's leg fracture.

That's kind of mean spirited. I know you are referring to Pro's injury that was a horrendous injury complicated by severe infection -- probably from the chemicals in the grass not nosocomial.

I really hope Goode's injury does not need surgery and he makes a speedy recovery.

Yes, Tyrone suffered a horrible injury that might have defied any doctor's repeated best efforts. Sadly, it happens. In fact, the best result possible may be "doesn't permanently walk with a limp". I'm not sure the same is true of AC, but that's another discussion....

I'm not a doctor. I don't think Fowler is a butcher or a quack or any of that stuff, but I do have to say that if it was my leg or my son's leg that needed surgery, and I had time, I'd go up the road an extra 45 minutes and let Dr. Andrews do it.

I have ONLY seen that replay twice... and that was unbearable. Prothro will have a lifelong disability. This is the prime example why football players deserve long term disability insurance. Why do we pretend this type of coverage is extravagant?

I have ONLY seen that replay twice... and that was unbearable. Prothro will have a lifelong disability. This is the prime example why football players deserve long term disability insurance. Why do we pretend this type of coverage is extravagant?

Perhaps this is a subject for another thread (please don't skin me alive if it is, mods), but one would think that even the poor, penniless NCAA could consider some type of consideration for the athletes who create a significant portion of their financial intake.

We won't talk about the NFL. They are a non-profit organization (I'm not kidding--they officially are).

The NCAA, however, is fair game on this thread. I agree--insurance should be provided, at least for disabling injuries.

Agree. Shouldn't be that hard to get. NCAA athletes is actually a pretty huge pool to insure and if you limit it to claims that will continue to accrue after college participation, I wouldn't think it would be that expensive for the ncazzi's. One more "official" final four sponsor would about do it. Or donate the revenue from the new football championship game.

Dr. Crane i believe is the one who is doing or did the surgery so that puts the talk of fowler doing surgery to a temparary end....
