Everyone just needs to relax. It's a big decision for him, and perhaps his mind is not entirely made up. Even if he has decided to come to Alabama, he intends to handle it the right way and let his team hear it from him first.

And if he decides not to come, it will be at least in part due to the insane media and internet circus that has surrounded this whole thing. All the crazy internet and radio chatter, the incorrect media reports, the calling his wife at home to talk about their new life in Alabama before either of them had even spoken to Alabama -- those kinds of things are the biggest drawback to coaching here, and it may be the very thing that causes him to conclude he'd be more comfortable staying put . . .

For $2 million dollars a year, they can call my wife and ask her questions all day long!:p_green:

I think we are about to drop the ball......
If he chooses to stay it won't be because Bama dropped the ball. It's because he didn't want to come. He's been offered a healthy contract, an opportunity to be the head coach of a big time college program and realistically compete for national championships. Bama did their part and did it well.

What are the chances that RR has a little birdy from Penn State talking to him?

Joe Pa can't live forever (I think it's time to give up on him retiring).

A B S O L U T E L Y!! I also believe I speak for the majority when I say, if he doesn't want to be here, he needs to be somewhere else! Beginning to look that way, anyhow.

Maybe we should just go ahead and label this "The Official I Told You So" thread.
:biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2: :biggrin2:
Ah yes, the old ever present "sources close to the situation."
Must really be crowded in there (close to the situation)!! :rolleye2: ;)

If he turns us down, he's prolly gonna see lots of " little birdies"!!;) :biggrin2:

Things don't look good, but I still think he will probably come here unless WVU matches our offer. Why wouldn't he won't to come to the SEC. Let's all relax and the right things will happen.

I agree. This is about the most rationale way of analyzing the situation that I have seen. If he doesn't want to be here then it's best for him. However if he does, I am confident he can be a great coach for us.

i don't see how everyone keeps saying he'll have an easier time competing for a NC here. WV is in the big east, he will have an easier time dominating the big east and only has 1 contender there, louisville. in the SEC he'll have to contend with the likes of florida, tennessee, lsu, and auburn every year just to get a conference championship. if he's truly set on alabama it would be because he's up for the challenge.

Maybe true, but it's much easier getting blue chip recruits to go to Alabama than WVU. The competition may be rougher, but overall you'll have better players to face that challenge.

He's been pushing for better facilities, specifically an academic center for athletes, and more money for his assistants. 1 million + a year goes a looong way in Morgantown. I think it's less the money than getting what he wants from Eddie (Pastilong, the AD of WVU).

Then again, I'm (unfortunately) convinced he's heading to Alabama, but that's just me.

If it was all about money, Spurrier might be our coach. Fact of the matter is, money isn't everything.

I may get made to look the fool here in a few minutes but I'm not as worried about WVU's counter offer. I think if they were extremely serious about keeping him and really felt they had the firepower to keep him, they would've started negotiations to lock him down earlier in the week.
I think this is (to some degree) window dressing so that it appears they tried to keep him.
