Yes, I'm one of those who had lost this recipe after it was published in the Mobile Register years ago. I contacted Jay Grelen and he was nice enough to pass it back to me. Jay has published columns in Louisiana, Alabama, Oklahoma, South Carolina and now Arkansas! His sweet tea recipe is another biggie!
I promise -- this one's a keeper!
Jay Grelen and Granny's Hot Chocolate Article
Granny’s Hot Chocolate (by Jay Grelen).
First, find a really big container in which to mix the dry ingredients, one with a lid.
Then mix: One 8-quart box of powdered milk. (We have found that the brand-name versions work better.) One 1 /2- or 2-pound box of instant chocolate drink (like Nesquik).
One 12-ounce jar of powdered creamer (Coffeemate, etc.). The nonfat works well.
One 1-pound box of powdered sugar. (My wife leaves this out, but I’ll refer you to the first line of this column.) Put on the lid and shake it.
When the weather outside is frightful, fill your mug a quarter to a third with the mix, add water that’s almost boiling and stir.
You take it from here.
