The rivalry is what has turned so many people into fanatical jerks--on both sides of the field. If we could have a HEALTHY rivalry, it would be great, but that only happens in a perfect world. When we have fans and/or boosters who do the things that both Alabama and Auburn people are guilty of--there is something seriously wrong with the rivalry.

I want Auburn to lose EVERY game they play, but I am not going to be that jerk that publicly disses Auburn. Why? Because I hate the Auburn fans who do that to us. These are the people who make this rivalry suck. It turns good people into hypocrites and makes friendships end. That is not okay with me. Now, the occasional smack talk is one thing, but the incessant back and forth that I see between some people is sick. I hate to see Alabama fans act obnoxious and stupid and rude and immature. It is so embarrassing. I'm trying to teach my kids that you can dislike Auburn (and other rivals) and not be a donkey's butt. ;)

I won't be cheering for Auburn in the Natty, but I won't be cheering for FSU either. I can't wait to watch the game, though. I think it will be a good one. As long as Jameis is under center--I hope FSU loses. If the scenario that someone described in another thread on THIS EXACT SAME TOPIC happens, then I would be ok with FSU winning. That scenario had Auburn taking out Jameis in the first offensive series and Jacob Coker coming in to win the game for FSU and subsequently announce his transfer to Bama after the game! I would be okay with that! haha!

Until then, go NOBODY and may the team with the ball last win!!

Roll Tide!

An AU friend of mine called and asked me the other day if I'd be pulling for them to win. I told him that I disliked Florida State intensely but I hated Auburn, so no, I wouldn't be pulling for them.

He then asked how I thought the game might go. Did they have a chance of winning. I told him sure as long as all the fans and players walked around with their butts tight so they don't lose any horse shoes.

Realistically I'll probably watch some of the game but I honestly could care less. I do think AU has a good shot since I don't think FSU has played anyone capable of hitting them in the mouth all game long and if it's close in the 4th quarter there's no doubt the booger eaters won't be rattled but FSU might tighten up.

I'm not so much rooting for FSU as I am rooting against the barn.

I get what people say about FSU having a rapist under center, but that's just one person; the barn is a whole nation of hatred.

Win-win situation.

If they win, I will politely clap and say that NC stays in both the SEC and the state of Alabama.

If they lose, I will blame them for being the team that broke the SEC streak and brought shame on the state and the conference.

Pretty much my stance as well. No way I'm not going to watch this but I can understand the sentiments of those who live in state.

Saw this article yesterday and completely agree. Won't pull for Au(ful) ever unless it will somehow directly help Alabama. Even then, I have a hard time.

I hope FSU obliterates them.

Perfect scenario for me would be FSU winning on the last play and JW catching a cleat in the cup area, effectively neutering him....

curious, those who say they would never cheer for auburn - is it only in this instance or ever? for example, say next season if an auburn win would directly benefit alabama (let's say it would put bama in the bcs playoff), would you make an exception or would you be steadfast in your not pulling for auburn to win anything at anytime?

Pretty sure in that scenario, most Bama fans would want *u to win. That's about the only one though.

I have no problem cheering for any team that helps Bama's position in a BCS playoff system. This includes Auburn and *gulp* Tennessee. :)

Hmm, cheer for an alleged rapist, or cheer for Auburn. Yeah, those Auburn fans made me so mad that I'm cheering for someone that probably raped a girl.

Not happening, but... I won't watch the game, since I dislike both teams.
My course of action as well. The only bowl game I plan on watching is between two teams in Crimson.

I know I'm going to watch but I'm not really sold on rooting for either team. I just want a good game really.

Just some random thoughts I've had:

1. I can buy the idea that an Auburn win strengthens our own standing since they ended the 3peat then finished the job to keep the last five national titles in the state.

2. I don't particularly like the FSU program. There is something slimy about the way they do things that makes it hard for me to cheer for them.

3. FSU is a clone of our program in our recruiting radius, I'd rather them lose than validate what they're doing.

4. Auburn is in our recruiting radius even more so than FSU, it is never good for recruiting when the in-state competitor is up in a small state.

5. Ultimately, I think FSU is a diet cola version of us and Auburn kinda had every bounce or break go their way down the stretch. I don't think either are better than us and would likely be beaten by us in a playoff scenario.

Probably at 35k or in an airport somewhere
There are arguments to be made in favor of all three positions (cheer for AU; cheer for FSU; cheer for neither). I find none so compelling as to be decisive. As far as I'm concerned, then, any Alabama fan (even any not named McCarron or Bonner) cheering for AU is in the clear...

You got my vote for post of the year! And man you did it just in the nick of time!!! ;) My thoughts exactly! The best team in the country is not playing for the crystal this season. Roll Tide Roll!!! :)

Back in the old days, the SEC had a rule that if two teams tied for the title, but did not play each other, the team who hadn't been as recent go to go to the Sugar Bowl.

In 1979, we were unbeaten and ranked #1. Georgia was having a very strange year. They had won all their SEC games, but were winless out of the league. So they were 5-4 going into the Barn game and would go to the Sugar Bowl if they beat the Barn.

My mom and I had gone somewhere (I was 12) and she turned on the radio to the local affiliate of the Barn Radio Network. We listened for a few seconds and then heard Jim Fyffe say "Barn leads 30-13".

My mother was so excited, she honked her horn and gave the Barn's battle cry. I would not have been more shocked if she'd spit out a string of curse words.
