A prophet is not without honor except...

I kid, kinda...but I've heard that Ohio State fans feel this way about Herbstreit too. I think we sometimes over-analyze everything too much. JMO
I can tell Herbstreit still has a fondness for Ohio State though.

I feel like GMac tried to model himself after Herbstreit and just goes way overboard most of the time.

Herbie does a great job of walking that line, IMO. And right now he is more a Clemson fan than an OSU fan because of his sons. IMO, he does a great job of being transparent about that and supporting those teams without being a "homer".

I would rather them be honest anyway. Genuine. Greg thinks he's being objective. I wonder if he has any awareness whatsoever of how he comes across to most Alabama fans.

By the way, I came across a clip of Herbie taking an option run 70 something yards for a TD against Minnesota back in the day. Dude had some wheels.

I think GMAC has gotten loads better. I think he was overcompensating when he first started because he worried too much about what others thought. It was beyond annoying and made him seem even less credible. In college football you’re gonna tick off folks regardless so just say how YOU feel and why and let the rough edges drag.

iirc Herbie had to move his family to Tennessee because of some over enthusiastic Buckeye fans who didn't like his version of the over-compensation you see in most of these guys when referencing their former schools. Hopefully no Alabama fan would ever act that way towards one of our former players, but I kinda suspect someone would.

I know what you're "sayin'"......but hold up.

Let's clarify.

Technically, I am a Bama fan.

I just happen to be a Gator fan first..........who is also a Bama fan.

The two can co-exist ya know.....;)

I dunno - it's kinda like the two hurricanes moving into the gulf right now. It doesn't seem like anything good can come of that...
Yes...you can be a fan of multiple teams with the heart tied to one. I am a Bama grad and Bama fan. Lived in Florida about 33 years with both children attending U F, one for 8 years (undergrad and MD) the other 6 years (undergrad and Masters). Wife and I left many friends there. We have fond memories tailgating with the kids and friends under the oak trees in Gainesville. I would show up early with the Beer and BBQ and they would......show up. Daughter would bring her Sorority Sisters, decked out in sun dresses. My they always won at Flipcup and Beer Pong. The Med School students could give them a run for their money. Us adults...no way. One gameday we set up a turkey frier in the middle for campus with, of course, adult beverages.
Not much different from when I was in Tuscaloosa in the early to mid 70's. Well, we had to hide the adult beverages back then. I remember my later to be wife in her sun dress helping sneak in a flask for games. I digress.

As I age I find that I do not "hate" teams, rather learn to have a dislike and loose all respect for coaches and/or players on other teams based on their actions. That seems to drive my feelings for opponents. If I don't respect someone, I can't like them, and enjoy seeing them get their butts kicked. Georgia comes to mind. Tennessee was right up there when Krispy Kreme was driving the boat. Otherwise I am happy with a good win and no injuries.

I like Greg too. And see all this banter between him and Coach Saban as them two picking on each other.
no thin skin by either one, as it should be
