Gus Malzahn fired (and (laughable) coaching search...)

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

Hes a good coach, but this shouldn't scare bama fans at all. It's a whole different level to coach against SEC competition and there are multiple big name coaches he will be recruiting against as well. It was probably the best white they could get after their main targets declined.

He will have a tough task against the likes of Saban, Kiffin, Leach, Smart, Mullen.

Just curious; given the current PC climate, they did not approach or interview a candidate of color?

I think this is a good point. He may be a good coach, but is he ready to face the pressure and quality of coaching he'll face in the SEC? Or will the SEC chew him up and spit him out in a few years a la Doug Barfield?

The hire doesn't worry me at all. He will be about as good as another Boise State coach, Dan Hawkins, was at Colorado.
Even Chris Peterson, the best of them all, didn’t set the world on fire at Washington. Yes I recall the one playoff birth they had. We beat them with a drunk OC calling plays that didn’t exist in the playbook.

Or a mnemonic like “Harsin not yet suspected in ongoing dumpster fire that is We’burn football.”

Solid hire known for the level of consistency they’ll need for dominating the AAC from the moment they flee the SEC. Harsin’s buddies touted him for the Tejas job when Charlie Strong got fired - he never got a complimentary T-shirt worth of consideration.
