100% right on the Waysider... though their prices seem to relect otherwise. After moving to the Tuscaloosa area last year, it was on my list to try due to the overwhelming recommendations from Bama boards... and I was supremely disappointed. Maybe the people recommending them were going there for the coffee... not the biscuits. : )HUGE call on Taco Casa. Beefy nachos and a bean burrito.
"This burrito is delicious but its filling."
I always have to stop by Milo's, I think they closed the one in Auburn down. Love the peach pies.
Anyone agree with me that the Waysider's food is not that great? I saw Todd Blackledge do some damage in there this past weekend. Love the atmosphere though. I think you can scratch glass with those tiny biscuts.
Too bad the Quik-Snack is gone.
A few recommendations depending upon your tastes that we've discovered (obviously local flavor is aim, not chain restaurants):
* Mexican: Los Tarascos (Northport & Skyland) & La Fiesta (McFarland)
* Chinese: Buffet City (Skyland)
* Japanese: Hokkaido (15th Street)
* Burgers: Mugshots (downtown Tuscaloosa)
* Home cooking: City Cafe (Monday-Friday only; downtown Northport)
* Breakfast: City Cafe & Buddy's (greasy spoon; no fiber needed that day)
* Italian: DePalma's (downtown Northport); Hungry Howie's (subs; Northport)
* Seafood: Steamer's (if you prefer lite batter on fried entrees; Northport)
* Scenic: Cypress Inn (good food also; Rice Mine Rd.)
* Milkshakes: Rama Jama's
I'm sure others would add to or subtract from this list. My biggest restaurant disappointment since moving here has been the lack of good steaks in town... and don't start telling me about Nicks In The Sticks because it ain't what it's cracked up to be if you're stone cold sober and don't become starved during the long wait. Oh, agree wholeheartedly about Taco Caso... too little food for the price and the taste is not as good as what I prefer.
