Statistics don't lie. Bama has a whole lot of improving to do if they want the second half of the season to go as well as the first half. Bama is a ground and pound team that controls the time of possession very effectively. They need to improve the special teams and passing game in a hurry.
Here's the biggest thing I take away from that:

The stats for onside kicks were not right? didn't Ky attempt one against us at the end. That would have made them 0-1.
The only stat that really matters is W's and L's. Right now we are at the top of that category.

Some observations...
Woodall is tied for first in the SEC in both interceptions, and forced fumbles (the link ranks by averages).
Our entire starting secondary is in the top 11 in the SEC in passes defended.
No one in the top 20 in sacks. We need a stronger pass rush.
My favorite: see the punting stats. There's one guy who is dominating the league in number of punts.
Oh, and Brandon James and Javier Arenas are 4th and 5th, respectively, in punt returns. I tend to believe that is partly due to the large number of returns they have. None of the three guys ranked above them have returned more than half the number of punts Javier has.

I disagree about the offense. The success of the running game has impacted the statistical appearance of the passing game. For goodness sakes, JPW has 3 fewer completions on 1 fewer attempts than the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. Bama has never trailed on the scoreboard, and the gameplan for winning a game when you have a lead is to run the ball and stop the run.
JPW has shown up in the passing game when we had to have him (Clemson, UGA). He hasn't shown up in games where we would have liked for him to (Tulane, KY), but he's not the only player. I remain convinced that our passing game (QB play and Coordinator play-calling) will show up when we must have it down the stretch. It has to this point.
Wow, reading some of these negative doomsday post would make one think we were 0-6 instead of 6-0. Sure stats can tell you a lot but they leave out a lot also. A couple of long plays by an offense can throw defensive stats out of whack. If a team scores very quickly several times it could throw the time of possession theory out the window( ie Missouri this year) Stats are a great gauge but not the entire story. Do we have things to work on and improve on, sure. But I am proud of what this team has accomplished so far this year.
This is the recipe for winning in the SEC. Running the football in this league is the key, and if you can stop the run, you will win. As I always say, the game of football is won and lost in the trenches.
We lead the league in running and stopping the run. Consequently, we lead the league in time of possession. If you're running the football, you're eating up clock and the other team's offense just gets to be a spectator.
I totally agree. If you were to flip that scenario then you'd have a Pac-10 team. (Looks fun and flashy but burns them eventually)
I was just saying if we could tighten up the pass defense a little more and be a little more consistant at passing ourselves then whoa nellie, I don't think anyone could stop us this year. (maybe they still won't be able to, that just remains o be seen though)
As readers may note, we're higher in passing efficiency than we are in passing offense. That doesn't make us Air Coryell (which never won a championship, unless you count the AFC West), but it does mean we're capable of throwing the ball when we need to. Which we have done. But we're definitely a running team, and I don't have the first problem with that.
As for our passing defense, a whole ton of that yardage came in garbage time against Georgia, when we were in sort of a prevent mode. Outside of that, I can't remember anybody having much success throwing the ball against us.
We all knew our special teams needed work, but it's worth noting that they looked good against a Kentucky team known for it's special teams, aside from a rare off day by our placekicker.
Bottom line: It's hard to beat a team that runs with authority, is stifling against the run, throws the ball relatively efficiently, and is competitive in pass defense. Oh, and also has the second fewest penalty yards in the conference. Actually, for our first six opponents, we weren't just hard to beat, we were impossible to beat.

We have absolutely controlled the clock by running the ball and not allowing teams to run against us. I honestly don't care (that much) that teams have run up their passing stats against us in desperation to get back into the game. They did that because we pounded the ball at them and controlled the clock to the point they had no choice. I think that makes us a very good team.

What I found interesting is that Vandy ranks near the bottom in almost every team category, except turnovers, and are still undefeated.

I would just like to add that we are also leading in time of possession as some of the posters have mentioned. with those factors weighing in, is no wonder we are undefeated. btw, I still believe we haven't play our best game yet. I believe it will come when we face off against LSU and the barn! RTR!!
