I didn't want to intrude on the fine post regarding the battlefields, so I decided to start a new thread. My apologies if I chose the wrong course of action.

In keeping Selma's thread alive, I wanted to share this. Spent last few days at Homestead Resort and the Greenbrier. Just completed the bunker tour at Greenbrier. Built in 1961 to house Congress in the event of a nuclear attack. Very interesting, amazing how large the complex is and how they kept this a secret for so long. Can't take any electronic devices on tour, including phones/cameras, so they gave us post cards with pics on them.

Monument for the explorer LaSalle in Navasota, about 35 miles south of College Station. He was killed roughly 80 miles to the east of there by one of his men.

Finished up trip yesterday in Lexington, VA. Lee Chapel on Washington and Lee campus where R.E. Lee buried. Stonewall Jackson burial spot in Oak Grove Cemetery. One of the most interesting spots was at the Virginia Military Institute Museum- very extensive rifle and pistol collection dating from 1700's. VMI has several notable graduates such as Patton, George Marshall, 12th President Zachary Taylor, and even Mel Brooks. I also decided to take the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Roanoke, VA for the evening. If you are ever in area, highly recommend taking the parkway if you have the time.
