Holy Crap - UConn to a BCS Bowl!

UConn beats USF 19-16 to get a berth in the BCS Orange Bowl

yes... UCONN.....

I watch a great deal of football. I think it speaks volumes that my first reaction was, "UCONN? Holy crap!" ....*notices title of thread...laughs*

On another note, I've always been interested in seeing UCONN employ a power run game like we did last year. I don't know why...it's like a phantom craving.

Worthy of note. Nearly 1500 yards on the ground this season. Mark had ~1650 last year. Todman had sums of 105, 192, 123, and 80 in their 4 losses.

Yes, yes, different caliber defensive opponents, etc. Boise State shocked the world against Oklahoma back in the day. There's potential. If they can perform well in the bowl game maybe they'll see a boost half as well as Boise did.

Also worthy of note, he's a junior.

The Big East needs an automatic bowl berth with the C-USA champ. And I would still take the C-USA champ in the game.

no doubt the big east sux now, but when the bcs was formed, that conference did have virginia tech and miami - both going to the championship game representing the big east early on. maybe tcu will regain them some credibility in a few years :rolleye2:

The thing I didn't understand was why the defanged Big East was allowed to keep their BCS AQ. When the powers left that slot should have been made an at large berth. That would solve the problem but money/power/ego trumps logic most of the time.

Big East is indeed one of the weaker conferences, but I wouldn't quite go that far. Both conferences sent 6 teams to bowl games last year. BE won 4 of those 6 (tied with MW, B10 and B12 for number of wins). CUSA won only 2 (tied with WAC and P12 :)).

THIS is why the BCS is screwed up. It allows a big east champ - who NEVER should be an AQ to make $20mm while much more deserving Boise State goes to a 3rd tier bowl. (I'm no lover of BSU, either, but they're getting screwed bigtime)

It's amazing that they are in a BCS bowl and are not even ranked in the Top 25 as of yesterday. I'm sure they will get some more votes (since they are the Big East champ and all ), but that's pretty bad that an unranked team is going into the weekend with a "win and we're in" chance at a BCS bowl.

TCU must be really licking their chops right about now...

No kidding. That conference is there for the taking by any decent team. I wish there were no AQ conferences b/c the Big East and ACC don't deserve a BCS bowl for their champs this year. I don't think Boise deserves one b/c of the 2 ranked teams they played, they lose 1, but MSU getting left out of the BCS (yes that would be 3 from the same conference) is a mistake b/c they did share the conference title. Even LSU is more deserving than Va.Tech and almost any ranked team is more deserving than UConn.

The "Flush Your Money Down The Toilet Bowl"....There's no way the Orange Bowl comes close to sniffing breaking even on this game. I bet the sponsors are breaking the door down to get a piece of that action. Make that the Fiesta Bowl. :)

The "new" Big East (2004-present) is 3-3 in BCS Bowl games. The ACC in that time period is 1-5, and has only ONE BCS win before that. Based on performance the ACC should lose their AQ status long before the Big East.
