I'm glad he recognized his problem and took action to conquer it. Hopefully he'll be successful; then find his way back to LSU and fulfill the rich athletic potential he's blessed with.

Much better move than transferring and not facing the problem. Best of luck to the young man.

I hope he fulfills the potential, but I hope he decides to transfer anyway. It can be incredibly hard to fight an addiction in the perfect environment, but to go back into the environment with all the triggers of the behavior still in place will make it harder. From my standpoint I want to see the kid get better and if he can do that in red stick then that is great, but he might be better off moving. Hopefully if his counselors tell him to move he will.

I also want to applaud the people who got through to him and encouraged this move. If it was coaches, family, friends or whoever they need to know this man's life will be better for it.

I guess I'm going to be the bad guy here and say often rehab is just an attempt to negate bad press or avoid getting in trouble. For instance, he goes to rehab, is back with LSU next year and we all act like he never did anything wrong. I'm not saying that will happen, but stuff like that does.

I hope he takes rehab seriously, but if he does he won't be returning to the scene of the crime either. Rehab should not be a way to avoid consequences, it should only be a way to try and overcome your problems, not atone for your wrongdoings.

I haven't followed this very closely...but it's my impression his misbehavior is limited to smoking weed. If that's the case, checking into a fulltime rehab clinic out of state almost seems like overkill.

If he is fighting addiction to harder drugs, then this move is more understandable for me.

A little off-topic, but I'm reminded of when Tiger Woods got caught running around, and checked into a rehab clinic to get help dealing with his fondness for attractive women.

You may be right! Only Tyran can show differently. I just have a hard time understanding how a rehab center is going to do so much more, my point is (if the reports are true) he failed 7 drug test? Does anyone think Les discussed the ramifications of those actions EACH time? Did his parents get involved at all? He messed up a huge opportunity, & like you I have seen a lot of players go in just to get back on, Only time will tell.

I understand and somewhat share your cynicism. Hopefully (even if this is just doing what he has to do) this will at least be one instance of another set of people telling him what he needs to hear.

I read an article a few days ago that he would not be back at LSU period to play football, that he was dismissed permanantly. Per the AD at LSU.

Rehab for marijuana?? IMO, it's for something stronger than that.

has to be more than weed, no real addiction to it. if something harder can understand the rehab but weed is something that you put down and walk away from.

Yeah. This is dealing with bad press. What he needs is stern parenting. At 20 I still knew my dad would beat my butt and every decision I made I always thought how my father would react.

As I just posted in the parallel thread, LSU has a school-wide policy of permanent suspension from athletic teams for a third failed drug test. They're not going to change it for Mathieu...
