Wish I went to Tuscaloosa for college
Wife and I are making a a little trip up to Chicago at the end of next week. I've heard about this Houndstooth Saloon place and I was wondering if it's worth taking a look at for lunch or something. You bet I will be wearing my Alabama stuff if I do make the trek over there even though I'll be too tired following my wife around as she wants to spend a great deal of time shopping on Michigan Ave.!!

I'v heard a number of Alabama fans can be found in there, as well as other SEC fans. I believe we actually had a poster here on TideFans.com that worked there or frequented the place.

Check out their photo section, they meet at the houndstooth and I bet that's where alot of those pics are taken. But not sure. If not, theres another good Bama Bar in Chicago.

P.S. Under the video section of this website, check out the Eli Gold Video. It was shot back in the summer of '08. It's interesting how he talks about the program, and whats going on, and what to expect and compare it to what actually happened this past season. Just a good reminder at how surprising the 08 season was.

Sweet Home AL
My wife and I went up to Chicago in December 2007. We went to the Houndstooth to watch the Indep. Bowl game. We had a BLAST!!! Nothing BUT TIDE fans. I think I had a burger or something. Pretty good food!!! If Lou is working the bar, get a Sweet Lou...

Please make the trip to the Houndstooth if you can when you visit Chicago. I'm the VP of the Chicago Alumni Chapter, and we've done our best to help make the Houndstooth a home away from home for us Southerners stuck above the Mason-Dixon. Please check out our phenomenal website: RollTideChicago.com
The alumni chapter has really great shirts for sale (can be purchasedthrough the website) that were designed by one of our members and they've been a huge hit. All of the proceeds go towards the endowment of a scholarship.
The bar also has their own t-shirts for sale.
Feel free to shoot me a note if you have any questions about the area, I live about 5 minutes from the bar. Have a great time, bring a jacket.

It's a great place. I've visited it multiple times.

As far as deep dish pizza is concerned, don't go for the bought-in, chain crap that Uno's offers. Go to a Giordanos. Order a small. For two people.

Wow, seems like this bar is quite a popular bar to go to, especially if a Bama fan visiting Chicago. Looks like I'll definitely make the effort to get there. I checked their website and it says they are open at 5pm during the week? Is that true cause I was hoping to go there for lunch cause the wife wants to go out to eat at other resturants in the heart and soul of downtown Chicago.

A good local place several blocks down Clark from the Houndstooth North is Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder Company (CPOG). Pizza comes with the crust draped over a bowl that contains the toppings. You turn the whole thing over and chow down.

Strange, I know, but it's really good. They don't take reservations. You give them your name, and they don't even write it down. I have no idea how they keep it all straight, but they do.

Also a bit of history...it's right across the street from the building where the St. Valentine's Day Massacre took place. Capone's lookout men were stationed in a room directly above what is now the CPOG.

I agree with Gibson's for the steak, but I would say Lou Malnati's pizza on Rush Street is a unique experience as well. More of a cornmeal texture to this pizza, which didn't sound very appetizing but was VERY good. Also, Rosebud Italian restaurant - the one in Chicago's Little Italy - was extremely good.
