But speculation for weeks has strong mutual interest existing between Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville and Texas A&M.
...
Tuberville, whose Tigers take on Alabama today, is expected to meet with his athletic director Sunday.

I seriously doubt tubs goes to a&m. I can't think of a single reason for him to go there.
He coached there, will mostly likely see a rather large increase in pay, and doesn't have to go up annually against as tough competition as he would if he stayed which increases his chances for making a run at the NC or BCS more often. Oh and Lowder wants him gone and will get his way eventually.

Tubss receives a $200,000 pay raise every year. Why go anywhere else, when he can maintain stats quo and keep getting a big raise? He's got all the leverage in his contract. He will ride it out till Bama turns the corner, then the Barn will buy him out like the others former coaches that are still getting buyout checks.

As I said in another thread aTm may announce they have a new HC as early as Monday. This is only window dressing saying they will now begin the search, the search has been going on for weeks. They courted franchione during his last season at Alabama without the consent of our AD and they have done the same again. Should it be Tubberville the $6 mil buy out is no problem, they probably saved close to that when fran resigned in a deal which mitigated his buy out from aTm.

If Ears wants to coach more than 3 or 4 more years he will go to aTm. If he rides it out until the barn fires him he may have a tough time getting another job. His stock will never be any higher than it is right now.

Tubberville the $6 mil buy out is no problem, No it's not a problem but are they willing to pay it? Seems to be a sticking point right now.

Word floating around the business is that A&M did save exactly $6m in Fran's negotiated resignation. If he didn't resign, A&M would fire him and file a breach of contract.

Not sure if all this add's up to Tubbs heading to College Station, however, Bayou's right, the wheels to replace Fran have been rolling for 3 weeks. It is highly probable that a handshake has already taken place. This will happen quickly.

The 6 million won't be a problem, if A&M fans' tendency to brag about the amount of money flowing into the program is to be believed.

Tuberville will go, if for any reason, because of Auburn's treatment of him (flying to Petrino, etc) despite him having unprecedented success against the only team they really seem to care if they beat (us), reasons for the success not withstanding.

I don't see the Big 12 as being signifigantly easier than the SEC. A bit, perhaps... and certainly easier to recruit in Texas due to the overwhelming amount of talent the state itself produces. But not so much that it would be a major reason for any SEC coach to leave.

The biggest thing is that one has to wonder if going to A&M is really better than Auburn.

A & M is a coaching graveyard. That's not a great job. :pDT_bur2:

If Tubby wants to leave that's one thing, but to go to Texas A & M is an entirely different matter. That would not be a good move on his part IMO.

I think Tubbs will go to A&M because he realizes he will not score as much talent as he has over the past few years. The NCAA sanctions and Mike Shula at the helm has shifted many talented high school players to Auburn. Now that Saban is at the helm, the recruits will come. No more free rides for Tommy. Auburn owes a lot of its success to Bama due to the past shortcomings of the Tide.

I posted on the "Croom" thread that MSU thought Spurrier was coming there.

It's delusional psychosis, caused by consistently being the #2 in the state regardless of what you accomplish whether it's winning the conference, going unbeaten, or (and I throw this in just for laughs) winning the national championship.

No matter what happens, Auburn will ALWAYS be the #2 program in Alabama. A/M will NEVER be #1 in Texas.

It seems to me that Tubby has had plenty of OJT for the A/M job by that standard.

Slocum almost got the job done, but , in the end was a victim of his own success
