I'm visiting friends in Huntsville and want to buy the game for us. Do they have to have a specific carrier? Set-top box? Can the cable company flip a switch or do I need to have the host pick-up / return equipment?

Thanks for any insight before I go blindly making phone calls!

They'll probably need to have a cable box and you just need to call the cable provider.

To order the San Jose St @ ALABAMA game you will need a digital box from your cable service provider, which now-a-days is basically in every home. The game will be on PPV (Pay-Per-View) and you can easily order the game by phone or by remote, depending on your friends set-up. The game is also scheduled to be on ESPN3, which is the online game viewing site by ESPN but in order to watch it on a TV you would uve to hook up ur comp to ur TV through HDMI or Analog if ur TV has the right hookup. Free but just buying it on PPV is easier. Hope this helps.

It'll be blacked out on ESPN3 in Alabama...so you'll have to pay for it via PPV.

Not necessarily. Unless they change something this year I was able to see all the games last year on espn360.com, even the ppv game(s?). I live in Huntsville and mediacom is my internet provider.
Interesting...I was unable to...living in Birmingham.

I wonder if it was tied more to my internet provider.

Anyone ever tried EPSN3 (or 360) on a PS3? If so, how did it go?
It's great! I don't have cable, so this is how I watch all of the games that aren't on network television. It works really well.

I purchased some cables and a converter box that allows me to hook up the computer to my tv so I can watch the espn360 games on television instead of having to huddle up with my laptop.

I'm in Dallas and was able to watch all the games. Pretty sure availability is based on your internet provider.

I think you're referring to ESPN "gameplan", the cable company set me up with it, once, when I called to order the Bama game. It was great all day long, all the other games that came with the package:pDT_popc1:.........Then 1 play into the Bama game....BAM!!!...the screen freezes :cuss: 45 minutes on hold with the cable company......they apologized :pDT_gy: Blacked out regionally, Alabama has the rights to the pay-per-view.

So the moral of the story is don't get "Gameplan" unless you also order Alabama game separately....

By the way, They wouldn't give me the game......it was too far into it :pDT_mad3:

You're exactly right, you're internet provider has to support it. I'm on AT&T DSL and I know I can get it on my PC. My question was if anyone has ever tried to use a PlayStation 3 to access it. The stock PS3 browser is quirky about certain sites and media types, so I was just fishing to see if anyone has had any luck with it. Anyone?

I want to say I tried it last year...and it didn't work...but maybe it will since there have been several system updates since then. It would certainly save me some money in a few weeks.

Sorry about that - missed the PS3 part of your post.

I don't have a PS3, but I tried accessing espn360 through our Wii so I wouldn't have to hook up the computer to the tv, but it didn't work. It got to the site fine, but when you tried to view a game, it got confused and just froze. Is that similar to what happened with the PS3?

Question: Is ESPN3 AND ESPN360 the same thing? I watched several games last yeart on 360, but never heard of ESPN3 till this year.
It is. I'm just used to calling int espn360 - that's still what I have it bookmarked as. If you go to espn360, you are automatically redirected to espn.go.com/espn3.

IDK, haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend and I'll let everyone know how it turns out. I'm not optimistic.

EDIT: I may have found a possible solution. It's not completely free, but check this link out:

http://www.playon.tv/playon/content-providers

Basically, its a media server that lives on your PC allowing you to access streaming content from various providers, including ESPN3 (with a paid premium subscription/license). I'm running a free media server to my PS3 already and I'd heard of PlayOn before but I didn't know everything you could get with it. I'll look into it and maybe give the free trial a shot and give the board some feedback on it later.

My sister-in-law lives in San Antonio. Going to have her play the game on ESPN3 using her Mac and I am going to screen share from my Mac. Never tried it before but we screen share Mac-to-Mac all the time for other stuff so it should work. Maybe then connect Mac to HD TV.
