Even though the coaching change has come and gone, LSU still has a very talented group of players. How do we match up?
Offense- LSU ranks below Bama in pretty much every category. However they are quite capable of putting points up on the board. Nussmeir is an enigma. He has so much talent but the brain seems to get in the way. Their running game is ranked below ours in numbers. And their OL has several injuries. We will see how the bye week helped them to get better. I am anxious to see how our front seven handles LSU.

Defense- This is where LSU has gotten better from years past. Mostly in the defensive backfield. The Weeks brothers helped them at LB but injuries have kept them out the last few weeks. Their defense is physical, fast and opportunistic (much like our own). Balanced teams have moved the ball and scored. Can we be that team? If we can find our run game, we blow them out. If not this could go down to the 4th quarter.

What say you?

I give us the edge at QB. Ty just makes better decisions than Nuss. Hopefully, during the bye week we have finally settled on 5 offensive lineman and stick with them. I also want to see us run the ball with Hill. Yes, he is a liability on the blitz but he makes up for it with his hard-nosed running. I believe LSU is starting a redshirt freshman and a true freshman at the offensive tackles.

Agree, LSU has improved on defense and they have some very good players that will flat out stick it to you. They have had some injuries at LB so we may be able to hit the middle of the field on some quick slants. They are going to load up the box and come after us with the DB playing man coverage. Can we answer the challenge?

LSU has good players and proud program. They will be coming in to win. But we just have to play our game and, hopefully, firing on all cylinders. Our closeout to the regular season is fairly brutal combined with what we just faced so my concern is focus and effort coming off the bye week. Curious to see if this staff can hit the ground running or come out flat and struggle in this game.

Who is Harris?

If we can run we win big. If not we win close.

I do not understand why people think their qb is anything but mediocre. His skill set is mid at best. Propping him up as a heisman candidate probs got Kelly fired as the fanbase was inconsolable after it was revealed their new and improved offense the same incompetent mess it’s always been since Saban left

I just get the feeling this is going to be a good game. Those guys have a lot of pride and those coaches will be going way against tendencies on film. Gonna be a ball game for sure.

"How Teams Have Fared in First Game After In-Season Coaching Change

It's not a rare occurrence to see a coach get fired in the middle of the season. Last season, there were four FBS head coaches fired with six or more games left on their schedules.

Looking back at 2021, there were 12 FBS schools that either fired their coach or mutually agreed to part ways before the end of the season.

In that first game with a new head coach, teams went 6-6 ATS and 4-8 straight-up. When looking at just Power 5 programs, those teams went 4-3 ATS and 3-4 SU in their first game with an interim head coach.

Across the entire season, teams went 26-32 ATS with an interim coach in 2021.

There is something to be said about a team playing better in the first game with a new coach, but not enough for there to be a betting angle."

Here's some light reading on an analysis of before and after team performance for 10 years when their head coach is fired.

But in 2023, there was a 67% win rate for the interim head coaches, vs. a 25% win rate with the fired coach.

What does this mean? Football. It means football.
