Let's hope for none, but you've got to expect 4-5 for 30-40 yards at least,, well, unless you are the team playing Alabama.

Maybe an even more interesting question is how many will UK have????

This week will be different.

After the TuscaloosaNews article, there will be more attention focused on it. After a couple weeks, and conveniently for the Tennessee game, our totals will sky-rocket again, and the opponent's will dip.

I really wish I had the time to track opponents' penalties during the season, and ours, and compare that average to when we are head-to-head with the opponent. That's a lot of boxscores to look at though. If we have 11 opponents, with 11 games each, that's 121 boxscores to review.

Man, I ain't got time for that.

I vote for 5-6 for Bama, about the same for UK.

You want it, you got it:

Season Averages
Utah State, 5.8 penalties per game, 55.2 yards per game
Ole Miss 8.4 , 66
Western Carolina 5, 38.8
Arkansas 5.4, 41.2
South Carolina 5.8, 42.8
Kentucky 6.75, 72.5
Alabama 6.2, 61.8

Head-to-Head Games
Bama vs. USU (5/55 us vs. 5/40 them)
Bama vs. Ole Miss (5/46 vs. 9/73)
Bama vs. WCU (9/84 vs. 2/14)
Bama vs. Ark (5/50 vs. 1/5)
Bama vs. USC (7/75 vs. 0/0)

Everybody but Ole Miss was below their average when they played us. This was actually easy to find because NCAAsports.com ranks penalty averages and then I just had to look at our boxscores (didn't get future opponents as I was starting to go crosseyed). That, plus I have some spare time until my girlfriend comes over to the watch the Cardinals baseball game on TV.

Everyone forgets.....

this is the "Probation Bowl". Why would Kentucky get an advantage when they were hammered by the NCAA.

The correct choice is "just enough to kill momentum and stall drives when it seems Bama is going to gain momentum." Just like the Arkansas game, and the South Carolina game. Penalties applied in proper spots during drives can kill the drive and force punts. Go back and watch the Ark game. Alabama was flagged mostly after long runs that resulted in first downs.
