I've had google fiber 1Gig since 2018 (got YoutubeTV around the same time) and I can honestly say this is the best internet, home or work, I've ever experienced. We haven't looked back from Comcast, it's just so much better. Comcast did some quality of service (QoS) stuff that made things like speed tests great but cratered streaming HBO, for example. We had AT&T at work, and the connection was literally faster if I ran a VPN than if I just browsed directly through their connection thanks to their QoS crap. For the last 6 mo, Google has been installing fiber throughout our town. Got the email on Sunday morning that they've lit it up as of this past weekend. The options are 1gbps / 2gbps / 5gbps. The 5gbps is down AND up.
I'm going with 5gbpsKnowing that nothing I do requires that speed I went with it anyway just because I can. I'm probably going to need to upgrade my laptop wifi card as it only goes to 2.6 (2 is probably the max I will get via wifi because I don't have a desktop connected directly, but hey, why take the chance
Going with YTTV once it's installed. Pretty pumped. All in, internet + YTTV is going to be about $50/mo cheaper than what I pay Xfinity for 1.2gbps & all the channels (93.7% of which I never watch).
Google Fiber just lets it run without QoS (other than to keep you getting the speed you pay for) and it's noticeable even on day 1. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
